Mission Viejo shopping center built in 1970s to receive makeover

An original commercial shopping center built more than four decades ago will receive a facelift, under a plan the City’s Planning and Transportation Commission approved this month.

Built in 1976, the Alicia Business Center at 24002 Via Fabricante houses five different buildings with a mix of retail, office and automotive uses on a 2.71-acre site.

The center’s revamp entails updating the building façade with decorative walls, stone veneer and a new earth-tone building color scheme. The work includes parking lot and sidewalk accessibility improvements, updated landscaping and new decorative light fixtures.  In addition, the two existing monument signs will be replaced and building wall signage will be updated.

If this is what the new building will look like, I am very disappointed! It looks stark, cold and has absolutely no style or charm. Compared to the fabulous job that was done in the Arbor on El Toro Road, this will be a real set back to MV architecture!!

I totally agree!! This stark ultramodern look doesn't fit the charm of our city!! The Arbors is a great example of a better option!!

The design shouts "boring strip mall," and has no character (aka curb appeal). Are you sure you want to waste hard earned money on such a monotonous design?
