Veterans Day Ceremony will honor Veteran of the Year & other American heroes
Mission Viejo Veteran of the Year Hugh B. Speed III will be recognized with local veterans during the City's annual Veterans Day ceremony Monday, November 11 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
The public event, which begins at 2 pm, includes remarks by Colonel Chris Griffin, commanding officer of the Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, and retired Army Colonel Gregory Daddis. The ceremony also includes a color guard, rifle salute, taps and vocal performance by Kristienne Guerry.
A dessert reception and veteran resource fair follows the ceremony. Guests will have the chance to learn about the POW/MIA memorial table sponsored by Saddleback Valley American Legion Post 862; City's Marine Adoption Committee; VFW Auxiliary Post 6024; Patriots and Paws; PTSD Foundation of America; Veterans Administration; Veterans Legal Institute; and other organizations.
The reception includes entertainment and an opportunity to create thank-you cards for members of the military. Separate programming is also available for children with special needs through the City's new SNAP (Special Needs Adaptive Programming) Initiative.
