Virtual training for small property owners, realtors regarding helping people with housing insecurities

homeowners

The City of Mission Viejo is teaming up with the United Way and OC Realtors to raise awareness of housing insecurities in the region and a program that connects individuals and families holding housing vouchers with local apartment owners.

Orange County United Way's WelcomeHomeOC program has helped more than 600 people experiencing housing insecurities find a home since it launched in 2019. The program connects people and families holding housing vouchers with local apartment owners. It covers moving expenses, security deposits, basic furnishings and other services to help newly housed residents stay in their homes. The program also provides resources for property owners.

To help expand rental inventory, United Way, OC Realtors and the City are partnering to host two virtual training events from 10:30 am to noon on July 19 and Wednesday, August 3 dubbed "Ending Homelessness: Good for your clients, good for community." The training is geared toward smaller property owners and realtors and their business affiliates. Participants will learn about the housing vouchers, landlord incentive programs, and how community and business leaders can make a difference.
