Volunteers sought for prestigious U.S. Masters Swimming National Championship Aug. 7-11

SMOC Timers

If you want a front-row seat to an exciting national swim competition, consider volunteering as a swim meet timer for the 2019 USMS Summer National Championship August 7-11 at Mission Viejo's Marguerite Aquatics Center.

Swim meet timers have the most important job and best seat in the house. Two timers are paired up in each lane, without them the meet cannot start. One is responsible for holding a stop watch to time the swimmer's race, while the other timer jots down the finishing time on the heat sheet. Both timers are responsible for pressing the stop button once the swimmer touches the wall. Although it is a simple job, timers are necessary to run a meet. It is a fun job that allows volunteers to see some fast racing in the first row.

Aren't the pools equipped with electronic timers? If I volunteer, how long is a shift and how many shifts do I need to sign up for. Sounds interesting since my 40 something kids used to be Nadadores many years ago. Thanks for more info.

Hi, I am interested in participating in the swim meet volunteers. Do you have to be available all 4 days? I can do Wednesday, the 7th. How much time is required to participate, All day , a few hours?
