Weekly mental health support available for parents in crisis

With the pandemic causing challenges for families and school-age children faced with social isolation and depression, the City of Mission Viejo is partnering with Parent to Parent Strategies to offer support and resources for parents through a program called "Because I Love You."

Because I Love You (BILY) is a free parent support group offering guidance and suggestions for solving problems with children of any age (adult or youth). BILY meetings are a safe, confidential place for parents to receive help with family crises. Parents meet weekly in small virtual groups, which provide the tools needed to regain control of their home, establish family structure and find the strength to develop new, cooperative family relationships.

Whether parents are struggling with an adult or younger child headed in the wrong direction; dealing with mental health issues; or drug and alcohol abuse, learning to implement the BILY principles can help parents navigate their way through any challenge.

Zoom meetings take place Monday and Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm. For Zoom links and to register, visit https://bilysc.org.

This shutdown has definitely done more harm than good, ESPECIALLY to school aged children. So much isolation and difficulties with a flawed distance learning system. The city should be putting much more pressure on the state to fully re-open. Enough is enough. Suicide rate is skyrocketing.

Jen, suicide is skyrocketing because mental health education isn't taught in schools, therapy is expensive, and this generation has more pressure than ever to keep grinding and succeeding at the same rate they were before a global crisis. Maybe we should be putting more pressure on the city to provide free mental health services like this instead. Cheaper in the long run than losing more lives to COVID.
