An Important Message from Mission Viejo Mayor Brian Goodell

city seal

We have been working with OCFA and Mission Viejo Police Services around the clock to ensure our residents stay safe and informed. The good news is firefighters are working tirelessly to stop the progress of the Silverado Fire north of Portola Hills. Our staff has been tracking helicopter water drops and wind conditions, which have improved in our area. We are grateful for the tremendous work of our first responders and are keeping them and all impacted communities and in our thoughts and prayers.

As the community’s safety is our number-one priority, earlier today, we issued an evacuation “warning” for Zone 1 in Mission Viejo – Painted Trails and Sky Ridge Communities north of the 241 Toll Road (El Toro Rd to the north Marguerite Pkwy to the west Upper Oso reservoir to the east Los Alisos Blvd to the south).  While this is currently an evacuation “warning,” with any potential emergency, please don't hesitate to leave if you are unsure, feel threatened or lose power or communications.

The City’s Temporary Evacuation Point (TEP), the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way, is open. Keeping COVID-19 precautions in mind, residents who have evacuated are encouraged to look for alternative accommodations, such as family, friends or hotels. The Temporary Evacuation Point is a place where residents can get information and resources to assist in any relocation needs. Mission Viejo Animal Services staff is also on hand for assistance and information about pet-sheltering needs. Call the Community center at 949-470-3062 or the Animal Services Center at 949-470-3045 for more information.

Our City will continue to provide information to residents as soon as it is available. If you are not already signed up for our emergency notification system AlertOC, you can sign up here. The City’s evacuation maps are also available for potential future events at this link.

The great city of M V should have a direct TEXTING emergency messages to all 100,000 residences and businesses in emergencies such as fires and earth quakes and winds or floods, power and water outage..It should be lLive and updated every hour , one message from a designated emergency desk manned by one or two people assigned 24/7 and rotated weekly and be linked to various OC .gov agencies automatically. Phone calls or multiple points of contacts are difficult and time consuming to reach . In short we want single point broadcast live and specific to City of M V.
