Public meeting regarding Oso Creek Golf Course, Public Space Vision Plan set for Sept. 13

oso creek golf course

The City of Mission Viejo Planning and Transportation Commission will conduct a public meeting on September 13 to consider the Oso Creek Golf Course and Public Space Vision Plan.

The in-person meeting begins at 6:30 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Purchased by the City in October 2019, the 69-acre Oso Creek Golf Course is nestled north of Casta del Sol, east of Marguerite Parkway, and south of Alicia Parkway with the clubhouse located at 27601 Casta del Sol.  Another 40 acres of open space is situated immediately south of Casta del Sol and southeast of the Marguerite Recreation Center.

The main purpose of the Vision Plan is to explore future use and operations of the golf course and public space sites, including possible hospitality or other recreational uses that would complement, enhance, and sustain the existing golf course facility into the future. The consultant-led process has included an extensive outreach effort, including listening sessions with stakeholder groups and two public workshops. A community-wide phone survey was also conducted. From this public input, consultant MR-ProFun prepared a draft Vision Plan document with short-term action items and long-term concepts for future consideration.

You can view the second public workshop presentation online that includes the draft Vision Plan concepts. For more information, contact 949-470-3053. Information about the Planning and Transportation Commission is available on the City’s website.

I think the golf course is just fine the way it is and should be maintained as such.
Any future development should be kept solely to the open land between Casta Del Sol and Jeronimo roadways.

This presentation provides some clarification to the overall plan, with some detail. Worth a look if you're interested.

2-6 year plan: Enhancements to golf course, trails, parking.

6+ year ideas: Olympic-sized indoor swim stadium replacing YMCA, with long-stay athlete apartments near the creek. And/or boutique hotels at the course or in creek area. Public parcel may be some type of park/garden in creek area, with commercial opportunities i.e. food/bev, retail.

THANKS TO OUR GREAT CITY OF MISSION VIEJO AND ALL THE GREAT ACTIVITIES THEY PROVIDE, ESPECIALLY OUR GREAT MUNI GOLF COURSE AND THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER!

The open space should be a passive space with trails much like it is on the other side of Jeronimo.
NOT hotels, apartments, water park, pickle ball courses, etc. Parking is already needed in this area for the busy Nadadore events, and will be needed for future golf course events, but parking should be close to the pool and course. The YMCA is very popular with residents and should remain.

The city has done a fantastic job at renovating the course. I would like to see a small driving range like other courses. I imagine it would generate lots of income for the city to help balance the budget.

I play Oso Creek twice a week with other members, we are all opposed to making any design changes to the 18 holes, we enjoy it as is. I feel you will lose players if this occurs. I suggest you take a Poll at the "Check In" and have the employees ask the players for their opinion on this matter. I guarantee their will more against it than for. Listen to the people that pay to play.

Do not remove the YMCA. This is a great community facility for adults and children. We need more community areas such as this as we have no actual town center in Mission Viejo. Plus it keeps people active at a reasonable price. We do not need a facility such as a hotel to take over an area that residents of Mission Viejo can use.

i think the Y is a needed facility for all ages . i and many others have enjoyed it for years. Perhaps expanding it so classes are not so crowded would be a good idea! but don’t eliminate it. its also nicely centrally located.

Keep the Y, or if it's not profitable privatize it. No multifamily housing! No hospitality! Maintain the ratio of green space to developed space in Mission Viejo. This is why we made it on the Money Magazine 2021 Best Place to Live List #48! It is beautiful here. Don't let the State of California bully us into a high density UN planned layout and take away our City autonomy. Keep MV green!

I, too, agree with keeping the YMCA, or a type of gym that offers a variety of activities, for our community at an affordable price. The Nadadore facility already has been beautifully renovated and has an Olympic size pool. In addition, it is quite expensive to take lessons there and only offers swimming and diving. Why not keep a facility that adds diversity of sports in the community?

I love the idea of extending Oso Trail between Jeronimo and Casta Del Sol. Adding trails and a trail head is a wonderful idea, however, adding a hotel and dorm area/rec center in the ravine would be very invasive to the surrounding neighborhood. I think it is safe to say most residents would prefer not to live near hotels. Ask yourself if you would want your home right next to a hotel? Perhaps there is another way for the City bring in revenue without hurting property values near Via Santa Clara and the surrounding neighborhood. The hotel at the golf course is a great alternative and what about the business center across Marguerite and the Nadadore facility.

Keep Mission Viejo green . We don’t want any hotels
No big indoor nadadores pool and boutique hotel to house swimmers . Renovate the trail between Casta Del Sol and Jeranimo like the rest of Oso Creek trail.
YMCA is a big asset to our community, keep it where it is and renovate it

I can't imagine why a community like Mission Viejo would consider eliminating one of the most outstanding and beloved facilities it has for its residents, the YMCA. Have you taken a look at how many people of all ages use this YMCA? It is used every day, all day long, by people who love what it offers. If you think the residents would prefer an indoor pool instead, then you need to pay closer attention to what is going on in the city! You have a wonderful asset right here under your noses. You shouldn't mess with a good thing.

Love the Case De Sol got course. It isn't about playing golf for me but enjoying the surroundings. My friends and I have gone there for lunch numerous times. We used to go to the Arroyo one off Avery Parkway. This is closer and almost as nice, no lake but still pleasant. Please, make this a dining experience! Right now the tables, menue and time open is limited. Make this a regular restaurant. Love the place!

The second comment for me....We need to keep the YMCA in Mission Viejo. Update it and keep it. The community loves it.

Rather than turning the golf course into a Par 3 playlot, has the idea of turning it into a full size 9-hole course been considered?
