Animal Services

If you want to meet the friendliest, most outgoing cat at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, try Mittens on for size! This 1½-year-old short-hair female is incredibly sweet.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is excited to celebrate National Pet Day on Sunday, April 11 by reducing the adoption cost of some loving pets waiting for their forever homes. Founded by an animal welfare advocate, the day is dedicated to pets that do not always get the love and attention all pets deserve. In observation of Pet Day, we are featuring some pets that have been waiting for more than a month for their forever home. Adoption fees for these animals will be reduced to $20 through April 11 thanks to Dedicated Animal Welfare Group.

The Nix family was excited to welcome Lexi, a 3-year old German Shephard, to their home in January. She immediately became part of the family and fits in perfectly. Lexi loves her belly rubs, hunting for rabbits on walks, playing tug-of-war, and learning new tricks including shaking hands.

While on her daily routine at Lake Mission Viejo, a staffer named Phoebe spotted a bird in distress. After a few minutes, she was able to catch the bird using a towel. She placed the bird in a kennel and contacted the authorities. When an animal services officer arrived at Lake Mission Viejo, he identified the bird as an American Coot that had fishing line wrapped around both feet making it difficult and painful to walk. Some of the fishing line had embedded itself into its left foot causing it to swell and bleed.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center's phone lines will be down for repairs from 5 pm April 1 to 2 am April 2; however, an alternative line will be available for after-hour emergencies only.

The phone number - 949-365-0143 - is available for emergencies only - such as if an animal is in danger or posing harm to human life.

Internet access and other services via cmvas.org will still be available.

Tiger is rated "M" for mature. An extremely sweet 8-year-old domestic short-hair brown tabby, Tiger is one of our longest residents at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.

Klondike is a sweet and active dog. Typical of a Husky, he is vocal and independent but will bond strongly with his family. Klondike loves his walks and is good on a leash. He is affectionate and leans in when getting pet.

He would thrive in a home with an experienced Husky owner who is committed to training, exercise and consistency. Since he can be possessive over his beloved toys, a home without small children would be ideal.

Are you "feline" lucky?

Meet Pishi! This loving feline came from a multi-cat home where the other cats weren't being so nice. Her former owner felt she would have a better life in a home where she's the only cat or with a mellow cat.

Pishi is extremely sweet, curious and loves to cuddle. Pishi is shy at first but will warm up to your affection. She would do best in a quiet home and with older children who can give her all the love she needs and deserves.
