Did you know we live in what is classified a biodiversity hotspot? The California Floristic Province lies in the region that extends from Santa Barbara in Southern California to the parallel 30th in Northern Baja California (about 220 miles from San Diego). These 34 designated areas account for about 2.3% of the earth's surface, which provide roughly a total of 35% of the global ecosystem services.

Introducing two amazing cats that are currently waiting for forever homes at the shelter.  They are the handsome 2-year-old Vanilla Bean and beautiful 5-year-old Cali. These are both amazing cats.  Vanilla Bean is friendly with everyone he meets.  He is playful, loves chasing toys, and he will jump on your lap for pets.

Mission Viejo Animal Services has teamed with PetHub to offer furry four-legged family members a next-generation pet license ID tag.  Beginning January 2024, all new dogs and cats licensed with Mission Viejo Animal Services will receive a smart digital license tag.  A QR code on the tag with a pet license number links to an optional free online pet profile with free 24/7 access to the lost/found pet call center.

Do I have to activate the QR Code to create my pet's profile?

Three-year-old boxer Neo is still waiting patiently for his forever valentine. This sweet dog would make an amazing companion for an active couple, single person, or family with older kids.

Neo is your typical boxer - fun, playful and silly, but he can be protective when needed. His previous owner loved him dearly but lost his home and could no longer care for Neo.

DAWG is sponsoring Neo's adoption, so he will go home with an approved adopter for $20. Meet Neo at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center today and bring home the best valentine of all!

If you're passionate about animals and want to help preserve local wildlife, consider applying for the Helping out Wildlife Locally (HOWL) Volunteer Program.

Mission Viejo Animal Services is seeking dedicated adults interested in helping the local wildlife and community through this volunteer program.  HOWL volunteers participate in 20 hours of specialized training on the natural history of local wildlife, animal services operations, common wildlife issues and attractants. Volunteers also learn proper wildlife hazing and conflict mitigation techniques.

In honor of February's designation of Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center and Dedicated Animal Welfare Group are sponsoring adoption fees for all rabbits.

February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, which was established to address the issue of pet overpopulation and reduce the number of homeless animals. It calls attention to the importance of responsible pet ownership and promotes the spaying and neutering of pets as a humane and effective way to control animal populations.

On February 20, we celebrate National Love Your Pet Day - urging pet owners to shower their beloved companions with extra attention. Did you know most U.S. households have at least one pet, with dogs slightly outnumbering cats? While cats are more numerous than dogs, pets extend beyond the conventional to include birds, reptiles, fish, and even rats. Regardless of your chosen pet, take the opportunity on this special day - and every day - to revel in the joy of their companionship, reaping the rewards of stress relief and lower blood pressure.

Mission Viejo Animal Services (MVAS) recently rescued four rabbits from the South East Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA) because amazing volunteers Thomas and Beata informed us the animal could be in danger.
