Animal Services

Chances are, if you've visited the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center recently you may have seen Chewy nestled in his bed.  Chewy has been at the shelter since being brutally struck by a car. He sustained multiple rib fractures, trauma to his head and neck, and an unfortunate sprain to his overall spirit - but this is one resilient little dog!

A 4-year-old pit bull terrier, Taupe is a gentle pup who loves attention.  Quiet and sweet, she will spend hours just cuddling with her person.  Taupe pulls a little while on the leash but is polite and well-trained.   However, she does not tolerate the company of other dogs, so she will receive free training to help her improve in this area.

To celebrate and thank the men and women of the armed services this Memorial Day, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is waiving the adoption fee for veterans this holiday weekend May 25-26.

We have many dogs, cats and rabbits that need new homes.  Approved applicants will only pay for the microchip, vaccines and license. To participate, veterans must show proof of past military service.

For more information, call 949-470-3045.

Woodrow, Kibble, Tiger Lily and Jackie have been at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center since February - a long time for cats at our shelter. They are being overlooked because of the available kittens but shouldn't be because they're great cats!

Woodrow is a bit on the shy side, preferring a quiet home, but loves to sit on your lap and will spend hours just hanging out with you.

Kibble has the cutest face.  He is independent and loves to play with ping-pong balls but also enjoys lap time.

On Saturday, May 4, Mission Viejo Animal Services Officer Alex Ceballos attended a special event to release rehabilitated birds of prey back into the wild.

"It is so amazing to get to see these birds going back to where they belong," said Alex as a crowd of supporters formed around him.  "Typically, we only see them when they're hurt.  Being here today really brings everything full circle!"

During the event, Alex was excited to release a red shouldered hawk and great horned owl (one of his favorite animals).

Megan Sommers has donated her time for 17 years to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center as a dog walker. Volunteering with animals has always been a passion for Megan, who has volunteered at each local animal shelter where she has lived. She says her favorite part of volunteering with the animals here at the center has been seeing the change that occurs from the time they come in to the time they find their forever homes.

Seven ducklings were rescued from a storm drain in Laguna Niguel by Animal Services Officer Galeano with help from a City of Laguna Niguel volunteer and the director of the El Niguel Country Club.  The ducklings were safely reunited with their parents.

This is the time of the year when we receive numerous calls from concerned wildlife lovers about straying or orphaned clutches of ducklings. For nearly two decades, the pro-humane Mission Viejo Animal Services Center and Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) have been giving unwanted dogs and cats a new lease on life through a special rescue program.

A gorgeous 8-year-old purebred Siberian Husky, Willow would make a loyal and loving companion for almost any family.
