If you plan on shopping at the Coast Vintage Market on Sunday, January 13, consider donating blood for those in need.

The good folks who run the popular market are teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a mobile blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Saddleback College, 28000 Marguerite Parkway.

According to the Red Cross, blood is always needed, and every drop counts in helping to save a life.

The City of Mission Viejo is joining other cities across the county in encouraging residents to volunteer for Orange County's Point in Time Homeless Count and Survey on Wednesday, January 23.

The biennial Point In Time homeless count will provide the county with updated numbers and demographics on the homeless population to help guide its response to the growing issue.

While we gear up for the holidays, please be aware of City facility operating hours. Mission Viejo City Hall will be closed Monday, December 24 through Tuesday, January 1.

Police and fire will be unaffected by the holiday schedules, but trash service will be delayed one day following Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Mission Viejo Library:
December 24-25 – closed
December 31 – open until 5 p.m.
January 1 – closed

A blood drive will be held on Saturday, December 22 to help save the life of a little girl in need of extremely rare blood.

The blood drive is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the bloodmobile at Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive.

Young Zainab Mughal is need of type O or type A blood from donors who are exclusively Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent.

Longtime City Environmental Program Administrator Denise Matson has been named 2018 Mission Viejo Employee of the Year.

Denise’s strong work ethic and commitment to the City of Mission Viejo has earned her the respect of peers, supervisors and community members alike.

The City of Mission Viejo will host a Town Hall meeting on Monday, January 7 to discuss the surging power bills residents are facing from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).

The meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  in the Council Chamber at Mission Viejo City Hall, 200 Civic Center.

At issue is the skyrocketing rates SDG&E continues to charge customers, which are substantially higher than electricity rates charged by Southern California Edison (SCE).

When the City Council reconvenes after the holidays, Greg Raths will serve as Mayor and Brian Goodell as Mayor Pro Tem for 2019. The Council Members were selected for the one-year posts during the City Council’s annual reorganization on Tuesday.

During the meeting, re-elected Council Members Ed Sachs, Wendy Bucknum and Greg Raths were sworn in for 2-year terms.

If you know a Mission Viejo resident who has made a substantial difference in the lives of others, consider nominating that special person for our annual Wall of Recognition.

This special program was created several years ago to recognize folks who have contributed extraordinary, lasting and highly significant service to our community. To qualify, the individual's service must have been performed here in Mission Viejo or can be demonstrated to have directed benefited our City.
