Discussion on Sober Living Homes, May 12, 2022, Town Hall Meeting

The County of Orange is relaunching its Microbusiness Grant Funding program – awarding $2,500 grants – to assist qualified microbusinesses in Orange County that were significantly impacted by the pandemic. The application period opens Monday, May 9.

The Planning and Transportation Commission on Monday voted unanimously to deny ValueRock Realty's zone change request for the Gardens property at the corner of La Paz and Marguerite.

Commissioners essentially said the proposed change to the City's zoning code does not fit the overall character of this City.

"We are all here to keep Mission Viejo great," said Chairman Joe Blum.

Vice Chairman Andrew Quinio echoed those sentiments.

"We are and should be recognizably Mission Viejo," he said

The City of Mission Viejo is sponsoring a Community Townhall meeting on Thursday, May 12 regarding sober living homes. 

Hosted by Mayor Wendy Bucknum, the townhall will include representatives from the offices of Senator Patricia Bates, Congresswoman Katie Porter, Assemblywoman Laurie Davies, District Attorney Todd Spitzer and others discussing current and proposed regulations at the County, State and federal level for these types of homes. 

Residents are encouraged to attend. 

Private property owner ValueRock Realty is applying to the City to establish a new mixed-use land use designation and zoning district for its proposed “The Gardens” on the northwest side of Marguerite Parkway and La Paz.

A celebration is slated for April 21 at 7 am to mark the grand opening of the new Amazon Fresh store in Mission Viejo.

The grand opening celebration for the new full-service grocery store off Crown Valley Parkway at Medical Center Road starts at 4 pm. Amazon Fresh is an online and physical grocery store that offers low prices on everyday items along with same-day delivery and pickup in select locations for Prime members, according to its website.

To keep residents informed, the City is providing regular updates regarding the proposed ValueRock Realty development on the corner of Marguerite Parkway and La Paz Road.
