With the holidays on the way, the Orange County Sheriff's Department is kicking off its Partners in Crime Prevention Workshop Series with a Holiday Safety Workshop designed to keep residents safe.
The Holiday Safety Workshop is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 28 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
Residents dropped off more than 720 pounds of unused medications during the annual National Prescription Medication Take-Back Day Saturday, October 28. An agent from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sheriff's Department personnel and Explorer Scouts were on hand to assist residents who dropped off their unused and unwanted prescription medications at Mission Viejo City Hall.
The countdown is underway until the 29th annual Walk Against Drugs takes step in Mission Viejo on Saturday, October 21.
More than 4,000 people are expected to participate in the event that begins with an 8 a.m. rally at Mission Viejo High School and ends with a fair along the Village Green.

Mission Viejo Police Services and the City are giving community members the chance to destroy their sensitive documents on Saturday, September 9. The free drive-through document shredding event is from 8 a.m. to noon in the Mission Viejo High School parking lot at 25025 Chrisanta Drive.
Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the nation, and shredding documents with personal or financial information can be an effective measure of prevention.
