The City and Waste Management are teaming up to host a free composting workshop at 10 am on Saturday, September 28 in The Kershaw Garden at Mission Viejo City Hall. The workshop will be between an hour to an hour and 30 minutes.

Residents can learn how to turn their yard and food waste into organic fertilizer through traditional composting or vermi-composting. Compost and vermi-composting containers will be available for Mission Viejo residents to purchase or order at a significant discount.

The City is partnering with Waste Management to host a free drive-through E-Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, November 13 from 9 to 11 am in the City Hall parking lot. This event will provide residents with a free, safe and convenient way to properly dispose of hazardous items.

Mission Viejo residents and businesses can destroy their sensitive documents during the free drive-through Document Shredding event on Saturday, October 2.

Hosted by Waste Management and the City's Public Works Department, the event is from 9 to 11 am (or until truck capacity is reached) in the Mission Viejo City Hall parking lot at 200 Civic Center.

On Monday, July 19, the City's contractor - GMC Engineering - will begin work on the Jeronimo Road and Marguerite Parkway intersection. Dual-left turn lanes from both northbound and southbound Marguerite Parkway onto Jeronimo Road will be constructed.

During construction, motorists may experience some delays due to the construction work and modified traffic signal operations. 

Construction is expected to last 60 days, so finding an alternate route is recommended.

As part of the I-5 South County Improvements Project, the northbound La Paz Road straight on-ramp will be closed for 30 hours beginning at 10 pm on Friday, July 9.

The closure will allow crews to complete paving operations and shift traffic onto the new lane of the on-ramp.  

Detours will be in place July 9-11. 

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and Caltrans are working together on the San Diego Freeway (I-5) Widening project from SR-73 to El Toro Road.

In celebration of Earth Day, the City's trash hauler - Waste Management - will offer Mission Viejo residents free compost on Saturday, April 24 at 11 am in the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center parking lot, 28095 Hillcrest.

Quantities are limited. Each household will be allotted up to 36 gallons while supplies last. Residents should bring a shovel and bag (or container) to fill. 

Masks and social distancing will be required.

The City and Waste Management will host a free Document Shredding Event on Saturday, March 27 in the City Hall parking lot at 200 Civic Center. The event will take place from 9-11 am or until truck capacity is reached.

As part of the I-5 South County Improvement Project, crews will perform loud pile-driving activities along the northbound I-5 bridge at Avery Parkway beginning around Monday, February 8.  The work will take place up to three weeks. 

Pile driving is necessary for the foundation of the new Avery bridge as part of the freeway widening. Residents should be aware the work may be loud. Schedules could change due to inclement weather or operational factors.
