In celebration of Earth Day, the City's trash hauler - Waste Management of Orange County - and green waste processor - Tierra Verde Industries - will offer free compost for Mission Viejo residents at the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter (28095 Hillcrest) on Saturday, April 24 at 11 am.

Quantities are limited. Each person will be allotted up to 36 gallons while supplies last. Residents should bring a shovel and bag (or container) to fill. 

Masks and social distancing will be required.

Thank you for your interest. This workshop is at capacity. We will be hosting another composting workshop in fall of 2021.

The City and Waste Management are teaming up to host a free composting workshop at 10 am on Saturday, April 17th in the Kershaw Garden at Mission Viejo City Hall.

Mission Viejo residents and businesses can destroy their sensitive documents during the free drive-through Document Shredding event on Saturday, March 27.

Hosted by Waste Management and the City Public Works Department, the event is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (or until truck capacity is reached) in the Mission Viejo City Hall parking lot at 200 Civic Center.

Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the nation, and shredding documents with personal or financial information can be an effective measure of prevention.

California's citrus trees are being threatened by the deadly plant disease, Huanglongbing (HLB). To fight HLB, thousands of tiny beneficial insects called Tamarixia radiata are being released in neighborhoods across the state to reduce populations of the Asian citrus psyllid, the pest that carries the disease.  

With rain in the forecast for Saturday, the Drive-Through Document Shredding Event has been postponed to November 14.

Hosted by the City and Waste Management, the free drive-through event will take place from 9-11 am in the Mission Viejo City Hall parking lot at 200 Civic Center.

This event was originally scheduled for November 7, however given that rain is forecasted for that weekend, the event has been moved to November 14.

The City of Mission Viejo is teaming up with Waste Management to host a free compost giveaway on Saturday, October 10.

While supplies last, the free compost giveaway starts at 11 am in the parking lot of the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center at 28095 Hillcrest. Mission Viejo residents are welcome to bring their own shovel and bag or container to fill it up with fresh, healthy compost for their garden. Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow.

Residents must follow proper social distancing guidelines and wear a face mask.

Due to poor weather conditions forecasted for Saturday, November 7, the Document Shredding event has been postponed until Saturday, November 14. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you are able to attend on the 14th.

The City and Waste Management are teaming up to host a free composting workshop at 10 am on Saturday, October 3 in the Kershaw Garden at Mission Viejo City Hall.

Residents can learn how to turn their yard and food waste into organic fertilizer through traditional composting or vermi-composting.

As part of a street-improvement project to extend the life of busy Mission Viejo streets, northbound and southbound Marguerite Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Oso and Crown Valley Parkways for two weeks through October 2.

The work includes asphalt grinding and a new asphalt pavement surface.

Following the paving of Marguerite Parkway, westbound and eastbound Alicia Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Marguerite Parkway and Olympiad Road from October 5-16 for grinding and paving.
