Local Author Showcase and Book Fair

Local authors residing in Orange County, California, are invited to apply to participate in the Mission Viejo Library’s first Local Author Showcase and Book Fair taking place on Sunday, June 25 from 1 to 4 pm at the Norman P. Murray Community Center.

Applications will be accepted March 20 - May 15 and will be reviewed upon receipt. Applications may close prior to May 15 if event capacity has been reached.

Space is limited to 30 participants. Fifteen (15) local authors will have the opportunity to share their writing journey during a 5 minute presentation and all thirty (30) participants will have their own display table. Presentation priority will be given to Mission Viejo authors on a first-come, first-served basis. Authors are responsible for their own sales during the event.

Authors presenting at the showcase must provide a copy of their book to the library by June 2, 2023. If a print copy is provided it will be added to the library’s collection. Authors with a display table may also provide a print copy of their book to be added to the library's collection. The library does not currently have the ability to add digital books to its collection.

RELEASE, HOLD HARMLESS AND AGREEMENT NOT TO SUE

I (Participant) fully understand that my participation in the Mission Viejo Library’s Local Author Showcase and Book Fair event (hereafter “Event”) exposes me to the risk of personal injury, death, communicable diseases, illnesses, viruses, or property damage/loss or other injury or harm. I acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in the Event and agree to assume any such risks. I hereby release, discharge and agree not to sue the City of Mission Viejo and/or its officers, officials, employees, agents, and volunteers for any injury, death or damage to or loss of personal property arising out of, or in connection with, my participation in the Event from whatever cause, including the active or passive negligence of the City of Mission Viejo or any other participants/patrons at the Event. This document is not intended to release any party from any act or omission of “gross negligence,” as that term is used in applicable case law and/or statutory provision. In consideration for being permitted to participate in the Event, I hereby agree, for myself, my heirs, administrators, executors and assigns, that I shall indemnify and hold harmless the City of Mission Viejo and its officers, officials, agents, employees, and volunteers from any and all claims, demands, actions or suits arising out of or in connection with my participation in the Event. I hereby irrevocably give consent to the City, its employees, officials, agents, and representatives, for valuable consideration received, to use, authorize and assign unlimited permission to use, publish and republish for any purpose whatsoever, by the City, or anyone authorized by the City, of any and all video and/or photographs which you have taken of me, negative or positive, without further compensation to me. All video and photographs, including negatives and positives, together with the prints shall constitute the property of the City of Mission Viejo.

I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS RELEASE, HOLD HARMLESS AND AGREEMENT NOT TO SUE AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS. I AM AWARE THAT IT IS A FULL RELEASE OF ALL LIABILITY AND SIGN IT ON MY OWN FREE WILL.
