Gayle Wood, chairperson of the Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee, has been named Volunteer of the Year by Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Base officials selected Gayle for her outstanding efforts in going above and beyond to support the men and women of the City’s adopted Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division and other battalions. Gayle has served on the committee for a decade and has led its efforts for the last five years.

The committee hosts many events and fundraisers and supports Marines and their families by obtaining donations for care packages sent to deployed Marines and baby items for newborns on base. Gayle makes weekly trips to Camp Pendleton bringing donuts to command staff and the barracks as well as providing support to individuals in need.

Because of her dedication, love and compassion for her adopted Marines, the battalion fondly refers to her as “Mama Gayle.”  The City congratulates Gayle and is grateful for her vast contributions to the men and women who bravely serve our country.
