City of Mission Viejo Animal Services Center

Woodrow, Kibble, Tiger Lily and Jackie have been at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center since February - a long time for cats at our shelter. They are being overlooked because of the available kittens but shouldn't be because they're great cats!

Woodrow is a bit on the shy side, preferring a quiet home, but loves to sit on your lap and will spend hours just hanging out with you.

Kibble has the cutest face.  He is independent and loves to play with ping-pong balls but also enjoys lap time.

Some homeless pets at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center are reaping the benefits of a couple's generosity with new beds, toys and treats for the holiday season.

Santa Paws is coming to town for a great cause. On Saturday, December 8, you and your pet can have your photo snapped with Santa and help support the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.

The holiday event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winter Wonderland Village nestled in the Kershaw Garden at the City's Civic Center, 200 Civic Center.

Cost is $20 for the portrait with Santa, and all proceeds will benefit the City's animal shelter at 28095 Hillcrest. Photos will be printed immediately following the sitting.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is reaping the fruit of a local resident’s labor with a $110 donation to benefit the homeless animals at the shelter.

The donation came from sweet Mia, who held a bake sale to raise money for the shelter.   Mia and her family adopted their dog from the center about 12 years ago, so she has grown up with her beloved dog and knows the value of rescuing pets.  Since she’s an avid animal lover, Mia decided to raise money specifically to support the center.

Gemma is an adorable and sweet 2-year-old Kelpie mix patiently awaiting her forever home since arriving at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center two months ago.

Meet the Real Housecats of Mission Viejo – all the entertainment without the cat fights!

These housecats are on the prowl for permanent, loving homes and include – Zumi - “the cool cat”; Sashimi - “the lovebug”; Delilah - “the princess”; Calli - “the flirt”; and Zion - “the adventurer” among many others available NOW at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, 28095 Hillcrest.

Meet Alfie, the sweet, elegant 2-year-old cat who has been waiting for a new home since March.

People tend to overlook black cats like Alfie because of the stigma associated with bad luck, but that’s certainly not true. These sweet felines have been given an unfair reputation. Countries like Japan, Ireland, Great Britain and Scotland embrace black cats as pets, believing them to be symbols of good fortune.

Lasso, a one-year-old black Labrador Retriever mix, is a fun-loving dog anxiously waiting at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center for a home of his own.   Lasso is a bundle of energy who would thrive in a home where he could get plenty of exercise and some basic training.   He has a joy for life that is undeniable and contagious, and his polka-dotted feet look like he’s been romping in white paint. Adorable, indeed.

With the temperatures soaring, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is reminding you to keep your pets safe in the heat.  Dogs and cats cool themselves differently than we do because they cannot sweat.  Instead, they regulate their body heat through their mouths and tongues, which is a relatively inefficient method in extreme temperatures.  That’s why your pets should remain indoors where it’s cool.  Even a garage can get extremely hot, so pets should be kept in the house, preferably with the air conditioner set.

If you’re a basset hound lover and even if you’re not, you will fall in love with America and Mo.

This perfect pair of 7-year-old pooches enjoy playful time and want nothing more than a loving home together. Since they’re extremely bonded, Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) is offering a BOGO special, so an approved applicant can take them both home for the cost of one adoption fee.
