The countdown is underway until the 29th annual Walk Against Drugs takes step in Mission Viejo on Saturday, October 21.

More than 4,000 people are expected to participate in the event that begins with an 8 a.m. rally at Mission Viejo High School and ends with a fair along the Village Green.

The longtime event, a highlight of the National Red Ribbon Week, serves to bring together City leaders, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, schools, businesses, community groups and residents to celebrate living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

Complementing the City’s ongoing efforts to inform and engage the community, Mayor Wendy Bucknum will host a Town Hall meeting on September 27.

The meeting will highlight Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch, two valuable safety programs offered by Mission Viejo Police Services.

Citizens and business owners will gain an understanding of the benefits of these programs; have the chance to ask questions; and learn how to start a Neighborhood Watch program or enroll in Business Watch.

The Orange County Sheriff’s DUI Enforcement Team will hold a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint this weekend in Mission Viejo to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers as part of the department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign.

The checkpoint is from 7 p.m. Friday, August 18 to 3 a.m. Saturday, August 19.

Police are seeking additional victims of Mission Viejo massage parlor owner Qing Dai, 40, who was arrested Thursday following allegations he sexually assaulted a 37-year-old woman at Sunny’s Massage on Alicia Parkway.

In May, deputies took a report from a woman who said she was sexually assaulted while having a massage at Sunny’s Massage.  The victim alleged Dai, working as a massage therapist, sexually assaulted her at Sunny’s Massage. He is the listed owner of the business.

National Night Out celebrates our safe community while fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s DUI Enforcement Team will be deploying to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign.

DUI Saturation Patrols will deploy from 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, to 2 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests in the cities of Mission Viejo and Lake Forest.
