Maybe a bit Dalmatian or possibly an Australian Cattle Dog mixed with some other breeds … We really cannot tell what Perdy’s breed is, but we know she is a good dog who has been waiting too long for the perfect home. Perdy is an active dog who would make a fantastic exercise partner — whether you run, hike or walk. Since she is such an accomplished athlete, she can jump fences, so her new home should include a secure yard.

Let's talk about bees

Honeybees that is "¦ Unlike many of our native bees, honeybees are social insects. There are 4,000-5,000 other species of solitary bees. The benefits of being social include the ability to store resources in the form of honey, which allows the hive to survive the winter. A beehive is like a single organism. If it does not grow and divide, it will eventually die off. Swarming is a natural occurrence and the only way a beehive can propagate. Without swarming, the species would die off.

March is designated as Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month.  Understanding what potential harmful poisons exist in your home and yard is the first step to keeping your pet safe.  Some are obvious; others may be new to you.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center on Tuesday, March 10 will host its next low-cost pet vaccination clinic for Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and Laguna Hills residents.  The clinic is from 5:30 -7:30 pm at 28095 Hillcrest.

Dolly, a 3-year-old blue pit-bull, was rescued from a crowded shelter in Downey and brought to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center. It is obvious she was bred, and unfortunately, thrown aside once her pups were sold. However, Dolly remains sweet and loving through and through.

Our 10-year-old lucky charm named Tux has a new “leash” on life! Tux got a second chance when he was found alone and severely injured with an open wound on his neck, which was likely caused by trauma. This unfortunate event could have been prevented if he was safely living indoors.

Ruby is an adorable 4-year-old terrier mix looking for a home.  Ruby was relinquished to our shelter because her former owner was ill, and this sweet pup was too much energy for him.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center last August rescued Legend, a Siberian husky/Lab mix through the "A Mission for Home" rescue program. He was quickly adopted but turned out to be too much for his first family and was returned. Sometimes, fate has a way of finding the perfect match, and this was the case for Legend. The most amazing perfect-fit family came along and took him home forever.

His loving family sent us the following update on this sweet dog:

Hi, I just wanted to give you guys an update on Cooper (his shelter name was Legend).

Officer Ceballos was dispatched to reports of a wounded owl in Pinecrest Park. Some good Samaritans found the owl on the ground under a tree while walking their dogs at the park. Officer Ceballos confirmed the owl was injured and safely rescued the bird. He found a rescue organization that will rehabilitate the owl back to good health and later release him.

Mission Viejo Animal Services officers are on duty until 9:30 pm and respond to emergency calls after that time.

Dental disease is more than just a cosmetic issue. When your canine companion or feline friend has red gums, yellow teeth, and stinky breath, it may be a sign of serious oral disease that could lead to devastating effects on your pet's quality of life if left untreated.

Neglecting your animal's teeth and gums can cause chronic pain issues that may even be at the center of certain behavioral problems.

That's why National Pet Dental Health Month, observed throughout February, is so important!
