The City is still accepting applications for its Community Development Block Grant Business Relief Program – part of an ongoing proactive effort to support local businesses impacted by the pandemic.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available for eligible businesses.

To be eligible to apply for the City’s Business Relief Grant Program, the Mission Viejo-based business must meet criteria established by the City and meet all applicable Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) requirements.

Dick's Sporting Goods is expected to open at The Shops at Mission Viejo early June. Dick's relocated to the mall from the Laguna Hills location on Alicia Parkway.

The new store will occupy a 98,568-square-foot tenant space that formerly housed Forever 21. The two-story space is nestled on the southeast side of the mall between the Marguerite Parkway parking structure and food court entrance. Exterior modifications were approved administratively, and the Planning and Transportation Commission gave the signage the green light last September.

The City Council at a future meeting will consider a draft ordinance that would allow residential beekeeping in the City of Mission Viejo.

The proposed ordinance stems from a citizen who spoke at a Council meeting last year about the community benefits of beekeeping and asked Council Members to consider adopting regulations to allow private residents to perform beekeeping activities on their single-family residential properties.

If you missed last week's Oso Creek Golf Course and Public Space Virtual Workshop, don't fret. The video is now available online, offering residents the chance to obtain the latest updates and learn about exciting project alternatives for the City's Vision Plan.

Wild Fork Foods is expected to open its first California brick-and-mortar market in Mission Viejo before the end of the year.

The specialty food market will move into the old Walgreens tenant space in the Trabuco Hills Shopping Center at 27785 Santa Margarita Parkway, Suite 100.

Wild Fork Foods offers quality beef, pork, chicken, lamb and seafood as well as specialty meats like bison, goat, goose, quail and duck year-round. The store has applied for a conditional use permit from the City to sell alcohol.

MEETING TO BE HELD ONLINE

In response to Orange County moving back to the most restrictive tier, the County is launching the OC Restaurant Outdoor Dining Grant Program to support local restaurants providing outdoor dining as required by the State's COVID-19 purple tier guidelines.

The OC Restaurant Outdoor Dining Grant Program will award $1,000 grants to 1,000 eligible restaurants through CARES Act federal funding. These much-needed dollars are meant to help alleviate financial hardships local restaurants are facing due to additional restrictions.
