Community Development

The new high-end, full-service grocery store off Crown Valley Parkway at Medical Center Road is nearly complete. In the same site, foundation work is underway for a new 3,400-square-foot drive-through Raising Cane's eatery that specializes in crispy chicken fingers.

If you are looking for a new job or to hone your skills, then mark your calendar for two upcoming job fairs in the region.

First up is the Orange County 3rd District Job Fair from 10 am to 2 pm Wednesday, October 6 at Irvine Valley College located at 5500 Irvine Center Drive. A host of employers will be on hand offering job seekers the chance to learn more and apply.  For more information and to register, visit https://www.ocworkforcesolutions.com/job-fairs.

The City Council on October 12 will consider the City's Housing Element update, among other business items. The meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Cities are required by State law to prepare a Housing Element every eight years to plan for the city's existing and projected housing needs - including its share of the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA).

The City of Mission Viejo has no plans to tear down the YMCA and sell the property which the City leases to the organization, City Manager Dennis Wilberg said during the City Council's meeting on Tuesday.

The City Manager's statement comes on the heels of misinformation circulating on social media relating to the Oso Creek Golf Course and Public Space Vision Plan.

Mission Viejo is proactively and uniquely working to address the economic fallout from the pandemic and seismic shifts happening in the way we work and live. Today, more than ever the Core Area Vision Plan, the community-based design for the City's Downtown Core area approved by the City in 2017, is ripe with opportunity for economic revitalization.

The City of Mission Viejo Planning and Transportation Commission will conduct a public meeting on September 13 to consider the Oso Creek Golf Course and Public Space Vision Plan.

The in-person meeting begins at 6:30 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Construction is underway at the MorningStar Senior Assisted Living project at 28570 Marguerite Parkway (near Avery Parkway).  The construction crew is working on the building foundation and site retaining walls.  Once complete, the 166,000-square-foot, three-story building plus below-grade parking will house 132 living units including 102 assisted living and 30 congregate-care units.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2022 or early 2023.
