Southern California Edison (SCE) will host a community meeting on Thursday, October 4 to discuss its wildfire mitigation program and the potential for Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in the area.

The private wall on the west side of Muirlands between Marathon and Los Alisos is getting a fresh coat of paint thanks to some folks who came together to beautify the area.

The effort stemmed from a resident who contacted the City on behalf of 30 homeowners who were unhappy with the private wall's appearance - it had been tagged with graffiti numerous times and was covered with mismatched paint.

A stretch of the Oso Creek Trail will be closed for improvements September 27-28.

City crews will perform maintenance to the asphalt surface of the trail from the Marguerite Parkway Trailhead to Arbolitos. The work will result in intermittent closures along that portion of the trail.

The City appreciates the public's patience during this improvement project. For more information, contact Public Services at 949-470-3095 or publicservicesrequest@cityofmissionviejo.org.

Several Boy Scouts continue to beautify the area and benefit our environment through projects that have elevated them to the prestigious rank of Eagle.

Troy Coulston's Eagle Scout project at the Marguerite Aquatics Center included 75 volunteers planting several hundred plants and nearly 20 trees along the slope area near the pool.

For David Gourgy's project, he and 12 volunteers installed lodge-pole fencing near the open space area on Via Noveno.

The City and OC Waste & Recycling are celebrating National Drive-Thru Day July 24 by encouraging residents to properly dispose of their household hazard waste materials.

Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes cleaners, stains, varnishes, batteries, automotive fluids, pesticides, herbicides, certain paints and many other items found in basements, under kitchen sinks and dark garage corners.

Tyler Hughes is in line for the highest ranking in the scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America after completing a planting project that beautified the area.

For his Eagle Scout project, Tyler and nearly 50 volunteers spent a recent Saturday installing new sodded turf grass at the Sierra Recreation Center.

The City is grateful for Tyler’s hard work and perseverance. For information about conducting similar projects, call 949-470-3085.

KNBC TV reporter Vikki Vargas was in Mission Viejo today filming a story about our City’s second “Stop the Bleeding” training.  Our City is proactively working to expand the Stop the Bleed program through Mission Hospital’s Trauma Center to train, equip and empower school administrators, teachers, staff and community bystanders to stop active and life-threatening bleeding.

While the finish line draws near for the Marguerite Aquatics Complex renovation, momentum continues to build for the grand re-opening of this 45-year-old facility.

The April 7 re-opening will mark the return of the Nadadores swimming and diving club, which has called Mission Viejo home since 1968.

With the first significant storm of the season predicted through Wednesday, we're reminding residents about our free sandbag service, designed to help protect properties from possible flooding.

Sandbags are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through April on a first-come, first-served basis. Bags are pre-filled and are limited to 10 bags per resident. You can pick-up sandbags throughout the City at the following self-serve locations:
