Hundreds of elite athletes will descend on Lake Mission Viejo for the annual Orange County Triathlon on Sunday, June 2.

This Olympic-distance event traverses Mission Viejo neighborhoods and surrounding communities and includes a 1.5K swim in Lake Mission. Athletes then ride along the 40K bike course through Santiago Canyon, with part of the race crossing the 1984 Olympic finish line near the lake. Other events include an Aquathon and Duathlon.

Residents should be aware the following road closures on June 2:

Is your child entering kindergarten in the fall? If so or even if not, your child can get a leg up in our ABC's with Tiny Tots summer program at the Montanoso Recreation Center.

This amazing class helps prepare your child for kindergarten in a fun, loving and structured environment.  The program focuses on developing kids' skills in socialization, listening and patience through learning to write their names, letters and numbers along with enjoying cooking, music, science, story/circle time and art.  Kids can also use the splash pad.

In honor of the Norman P. Murray Center's 30th anniversary, we've got a full day of fun lined up on Monday, June 3.

First up is our free Open House kicking off at 9 am. Whether you were here when the center opened in 1989 or have been a patron throughout the years, you're invited to relish in the memorabilia of three decades and leave your special memory in the guest book. The Open House runs to 6 pm.

With rain in the forecast this weekend, the City is rescheduling Saturday's Water Safety Day to Friday, May 31.

The event will now be held in conjunction with the Friday Float event from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Montanoso Recreation Center, 25800 Montanoso Drive.

Are you ready to make a splash and enjoy a night in the pool? Mark your calendar for Teen Scene Splash and Inflatable Night this Friday, May 10 at the Montanoso Recreation Center.

As part of an ongoing effort to prevent drownings, the City of Mission Viejo is hosting its free Water Safety Day on Saturday, May 11 from 1:30-4 pm at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex, 27474 Casta Del Sol.

Designed for the entire family, Water Safety Day will feature drowning-prevention tips and information, free recreational swimming, family activities and raffle prizes. Food will be available for purchase.

Get ready for the unofficial start to summer at the Montanoso Recreation Open House from 4-8 pm on Friday, May 17.

This fun-filled free event features an inflatable obstacle course, recreation swimming, a splash pad, family-style games and make-it take-it crafts.

You'll have the chance to learn about facility activities, programs and amenities as well as purchase food from OC Snow and Pizzami Buscemi.  In addition, you can obtain a discount for booking a future party during this event.

Registration continues for our inaugural Paddle for the Battle double-elimination charity pickleball tournament on Sunday, May 5 at the Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center, 27161 Nogal.

All event registration fees will go directly to the American Cancer Society to help raise money for research and support patient services. Participants will receive a tax-deductible receipt for their entry fees that day.

If you missed the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Mission Viejo this past weekend, don't fret. Mission Viejo Television captured the action and packaged it up nicely with YouTube links to the individual events.
