Families are in for a special treat when the 2019 Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park returns to the Village Green at Oso Viejo Park on Saturday, July 27.

Think you can perform the best belly flop or cannon ball in town? Earn prizes and forever bragging rights at the final Summer Friday Float from 4-7 pm on August 2 at the Sierra Recreation Center, 26887 Recodo Lane.

Bring your family, swimsuits and towels to this ice cream-themed event that includes music, family games and crafts. Enjoy the water slide from 4-5:45 pm before perfecting your style in the belly flop and cannon ball contests at 6 pm. Food, snacks and ice cream will be sold onsite, and guests will enjoy open recreational swimming and tons of fun.

The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center will be closed Saturday, July 20 while the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints hosts its Pioneer Days event on the Village Green.

The closure will accommodate routine maintenance on the facility as well as the many visitors expected to flock to the special event. The facility will resume normal operations at noon on Sunday.

The Level 6 USTA Junior Satellite Tournament originally scheduled for July 28 has been moved to November 3 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion.

Led by City Coordinator Sam Cho, the tournament is designed to increase programming for junior tennis players.

If you want a front-row seat to an exciting national swim competition, consider volunteering as a swim meet timer for the 2019 USMS Summer National Championship August 7-11 at Mission Viejo's Marguerite Aquatics Center.

If you want to tap your competitive side without flexing a muscle, sign up for the Esport-Management Summer League.

This month-long program by Esport-Management and the City of Mission Viejo is dedicated to the most popular titles and includes lessons, competition, coaching and prizes. Whether you're a novice or a more seasoned player, this league has something for you.

Option A - Beginner Esports

Registration is now available for the City of Mission Viejo's Junior Lifeguard Training at Montanoso Recreation Center. The class will be offered Monday through Friday, July 15-19 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.       

Taught by certified Lifeguards, the class builds a foundation of knowledge and skills for future lifeguard employment focused on water safety, drowning prevention, and skills for helping others in the water.

Celebrate Independence Day in grand style! The Mission Viejo Activities Committee is gearing up for its annual 4th of July Street Faire & Fireworks Spectacular on Olympiad between Marguerite and Melinda.

The fun kicks off at noon with live entertainment on two different stages. Patrons will enjoy rides, food and game booths run by local service groups as well as more than 40 booths offering up crafts and gift ideas. Admission is free with tickets available for games and rides.

The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center will be closed June 1-2 while the annual AYSO Mission Viejo youth soccer tournament takes place.

The weekend closure will accommodate the many visitors expected to flock to the center and neighboring Oso Viejo Community Park for the AYSO soccer tournament. The community center will resume normal operations on Monday, June 3.

You don't have to leave Mission Viejo to savor a luau"¦just head to the Montanoso Recreation Center from 4-7 pm on June 14 for a fun Friday Float Luau!

Bring your family, swimsuits and towels to celebrate summer Hawaiian-style. You'll enjoy poolside music, face painting, a hula contest, splash pad and food available for purchase. Tickets are $5, with free admittance for kids 5 and under.
