Youth sporting practices resume next week
Youth sports like soccer, softball and baseball practices are slowly returning to City fields beginning August 31 - in line with the California Department of Public Health's new guidance for youth sports to return to play.
Consistent with the California Interscholastic Federation, the guidance covers all youth sports programs including school-based, club, and recreational programs to support a safe environment for players, coaches, trainers, families, spectators, workers, and volunteers. Right now, only conditioning and training focusing on individual skill-building is allowed, Tournaments, scrimmages and games are not permitted.
Sports organizations are required to submit return-to-play COVID-19 protocols before obtaining a permit. For more information regarding fall youth sports, visit the following organizations' websites:

Free floor plan software can help small businesses impacted by COVID-19
The County and 3D Event Designer launched an outdoor edition of its Back2Business Initiative program to help local small businesses impacted by COVID-19 safely reopen by meeting local, state and federal social distancing guidelines.
The Back2Business Initiative: Outdoor Edition will provide up to 800 OC small businesses with access to free floor plan software to quickly create, configure or update their indoor and now outdoor space(s). This software allows businesses like restaurants and retail shops to view their current layouts and adjust their floor plans to meet the latest social-distancing requirements. With outdoor space being a focus for most restaurants, this software will allow restaurant owners to maximize the availability of their outdoor seating, giving them the confidence to open to customers and bring their employees back to work safely and responsibly.
Back2Business Initiative: Outdoor Edition is free and available to eligible businesses on a first-come, first-served basis through December 30 or when the maximum number of slots are filled.
Eligible businesses interested in participating can sign up and access the software at this link.
Certain technology requirements and criteria apply. For more information, visit this link or call the Economic and Business Recovery Call Center at 714-480-6500.

Mission Hospital touted for excellence once again
Despite the immense challenges associated with COVID-19, Mission Hospital has earned a multitude of distinctions.
In July, Modern Healthcare selected Mission Hospital as one of the top 150 Best Places to Work in Health Care. Only 150 health care organizations across the country were honored with this distinction, and Mission is one of only two hospitals recognized in Orange County. The other hospital is St. Jude Regional Medical Center in Fullerton, also a member of Providence St. Joseph Health.
This distinction follows U.S. News & World Report recognizing Mission for outstanding patient care for three consecutive years. In the 2020-21 Best Hospital Rankings, U.S. News & World Report named Mission the No.1 hospital in South Orange County and No.15 in California. Mission is one of the few community hospitals to receive statewide recognition.
Most recently, Mission Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and also qualified for several other recognitions.
"One of the reasons these recognitions are so meaningful is that they validate our ongoing commitment to high quality care, patient safety and experience as well as physician and caregiver engagement," said Seth Teigen, FACHE, chief executive of Mission Hospital. "We know that when our physicians and caregivers are engaged and happy with the work they do, our patients feel it. When they feel disengaged and unsatisfied, our patients feel that too. We are proud of our unwavering focus to ensure our patients have exceptional experiences at Mission Hospital."
The City of Mission Viejo recently thanked the hospital, its staff and first responders with large community art projects spelling "Thank You" on Crown Valley and near the hospital.

County launches SafeDineOC COVID-Safe Restaurant Campaign
The County of Orange has launched a new SafeDineOC COVID-Safe Restaurant Campaign to incentivize OC restaurants to follow California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Restaurant owners may apply for a $1,000 grant per Orange County restaurant location for taking steps to create a COVID-safe environment for their customers and employees. The grant will reimburse restaurants for purchases of personal protective equipment including face masks, cleaning products, employee training and costs for physical distancing of tables and chairs, etc.
The SafeDineOC campaign is sponsored by the County and managed by Orange County Business Council (OCBC), which will accept and approve qualified applications as well as disburse $1,000 grants to restaurant owners. Through its database, the OC Health Care Agency will promote the campaign.
Restaurants that apply and are approved will be added to a list of COVID-safe eateries organized by city that will be available to consumers on the SafeDineOC website. This online resource will let the public see which restaurants offer a safe dining experience in Orange County.
Eateries applying for the program must meet all qualifications verified by OCBC. Funds will be distributed within 45 days. All restaurants must submit receipts for CARES ACT-qualified purchases for final reimbursement grant payment on purchases made March 1 to September 30, 2020.
