Get a jumpstart on your holiday shopping at the annual Holiday Friends Book Sale Monday, November 19 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 100 Civic Center Drive.
Like-new materials for all ages will be available including holiday-themed and coffee table books, DVDs, CDs and cookbooks. Prices range from $.50 to $5. This is a great way to stock up on holiday gifts while supporting the Mission Viejo Library.
The City is launching a Back-to-School Supply Drive to benefit kids getting ready to head back to the classroom next month.
Grade-appropriate school supplies, backpacks and clothing will be distributed to low-income elementary, middle and high school students in August, helping them to start on the same foot as their peers – building their confidence for the coming school year.
Donation barrels will arrive at the Norman P. Murray Community Center and Mission Viejo Library on Monday, July 23. The drive takes place through August 14.
Save the date for October 26 when Markus Zusak, the New York Times bestselling author of “The Book Thief,†makes a special Mission Viejo appearance.
Zusak, who hails from Australia, will discuss his much-anticipated novel “The Bridge of Clay†at 7 p.m. at the Norman Murray Community Center.

Test your spelling skills and register now for the Mission Viejo Library's 3rd annual Adult Spelling Bee on Friday, July 13. The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Saddleback Room, across from the library at 200 Civic Center.
In addition to the Bee, there will be live music for entertainment beginning at 5 p.m. and a wine bar hosted by the Friends of the Library.
The competition is open to adults 18 and over, but all ages are welcome to cheer on the contestants. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
New York Times bestselling author Lisa Scottoline will delight fans when she presents her latest thriller "After Anna" in Mission Viejo on April 10 - the book's publishing release date. Join Lisa at a celebratory VIP reception at 6 p.m. to commemorate this special occasion!

Video gamers rejoice! The Mission Viejo Library expanded its collection to include video games for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
At no cost, library card holders 18 and older can check out up to three games at a time or place them on hold.

New reading program for kids will cultivate academic & career success
The Mission Viejo Library is rolling out a new reading program for young children – 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!
Geared to youngsters from ages 0-6, the 1,000 Books program is a nationwide initiative designed to foster essential reading habits from the get-go, since children who are read to at home are better prepared for school and continue to excel throughout their academic careers.

It's a love fest of poetry at the Mission Viejo Library in celebration of Valentine's Day.
Help the library celebrate the most romantic day of the year by penning a six-word love poem (or story) and emailing it to libraryreference@cityofmissionviejo.org. You can also drop it off at the library's Adult Reference Desk through February 14.
Tickets are available for the 2nd annual Friends’ Holiday Tea featuring bestselling author Lisa See on Sunday, December 3.
A fundraising event benefiting the Mission Viejo Library, the tea is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fairhaven Memorial Community Room at 27856 Center Drive.
