Mission Viejo Library

In an effort to provide patrons with the most innovative and convenient services possible, the Mission Viejo Library is switching its online language learning program to Rosetta Stone Library Solution, recognized as a leader in technology-based language learning.

Students are invited to tap their creative sides on September 20 during a special Origami for Kids program.

Geared for kids in grades 3-6 (with their parents), the fun takes place from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Library, 100 Civic Center.

Kids will learn about the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures. This free program includes a demonstration and guided practice.

Planning is underway for an exciting community celebration this fall that will mark the Mission Viejo Library’s 20th anniversary.

Scott Turow, a New York Times bestselling author and one of the top writers in the country, will discuss his new legal thriller “Testimony” in Mission Viejo on June 6.

Turow will appear in the City’s insanely popular Writers Present program at 7 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 23942 Veterans Way.  The Orange County Register’s Book Club is partnering with the City for this program, with pop culture reporter Peter Larsen serving as moderator.

As you prepare to proudly display your American flag for Memorial Day, now is the time to properly retire a flag you may discover is torn or tattered.

The Mission Viejo Library is teaming up with Mission Hospital to raise awareness about mental health.

In honor of May as Mental Health Matters Month and the “Each Mind Matters Movement,” the library at 100 Civic Center has created a space and resource area for people who need help or know someone else struggling with mental health issues.

The dedicated space is in the first alcove past the check-out desk. Each Mind Matters encourages people to start conversations, listen openly and support a loved one with mental health challenges.

If you’ve ever wanted to research your family tree, now’s your chance.  The City is hosting a two-part free genealogy program designed to help you discover the lineage and history of your family.

During the first part of the program from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 21 at the Mission Viejo Library, you will use different resources to explore the history of your ancestors. In the second session on Saturday, May 6 at the Norman P. Murray Center, you will develop a family crest that can be passed down through generations.

If you are an art aficionado and even if you're not, you won't want to miss the incredible art exhibits on display at the Mission Viejo Library.

Atelier: Creative Art for Children is showcasing art pieces created by talented and aspiring young artists.  The distinguished artists have received awards from different programs and contests throughout Orange County.

Their unique art displays creative expression, historical and cultural content as well as connections and relationships.

The work is on display at 100 Civic Center through April 25.

Have you ever thought about an advanced directive but aren’t sure where to start? Each day, countless families are faced with the difficulty of end-of-life decisions. Whether you’re a family member, healthcare professional or planning for yourself, don't miss a special program on Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Calling all teens!  On March 18, the Mission Viejo library will host an outdoor art project as part of its Teen Pop-Up MakerSpace series.
