If you plan on making improvements to your home, you can save time and energy through a new program the City of Mission Viejo is launching this month.

Available every Wednesday beginning February 28, Mission Viejo Permit Day is designed to expedite the plan review and approval process in a single day for qualified projects. The program can issue permits for residential remodels, one-story home additions, decks, patio covers, swimming pools and spas, residential retaining walls and other qualified projects.

Mission Viejo High School junior Matt Sorenson was nominated for the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders program in Boston.

This Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who are passionate about science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). This year’s program is June 29-July 1 in Lowell, MA. The program is designed to honor, inspire and direct the country’s top students who aspire to be scientists and technologists to follow their dreams and reach their goals. 

Brad Meltzer, one of the nation’s most beloved thriller authors, will discuss his new book “The Escape Artist” on Wednesday, March 14 as part of the City’s popular Writers Present program. The enchanting free presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Calling all arts and crafts vendors!  You are invited to be part of the spectacular Arts Alive & Street Painting Festival this spring.

This vibrant festival is from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at the Oso Viejo Community Park on the Village Green and neighboring Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Smoke may be visible this week from Ortega Highway and the I-5 and I-15 freeways from prescribed burns the U.S. Forest Service is planning to conduct throughout the week in the Trabuco Ranger District. 

This is expected to be a 7-acre burn in the Santa Ana Mountain Range.  A prescribed burn, also called a controlled burn, is a wildfire set deliberately to reduce future wildfire hazards. 

Mission Viejo's Marguerite Tennis Pavilion was recognized today as the top Public Facility of the Year by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), a global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,000 members in 125 countries.

The award was presented during the 2018 PTR International Tennis Symposium in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

After five public hearings, extensive public outreach, input and legal review, the Mission Viejo City Council on Tuesday, February 13 voted to maintain its current at-large voting system and identify appropriate remedies for solving the racially polarized voting issue in the City.

The City of Mission Viejo seeks the services of a qualified economic development consultant to assist the City with its business marketing, attraction, and brokerage efforts. Sealed qualification packages, plainly marked “Business Attraction Consultant Services” on the outside of the package will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
