Middle school students can tap their creative sides, learn about art and music and gain assistance with their homework in these special after-school programs at local schools and City facilities.  To boot, all sessions are only $25 for kids age 11-14. If you think you can handle the Polar Bear Plunge, then make plans to attend the Sierra Snow Summit on Saturday, January 28. The spa at the Sierra Recreation Center will be transformed into a mini winter wonderland as part of a family-friendly event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This fun afternoon will feature more than 180 gallons of artificial snow, winter treats including snow cones and hot chocolate, photo opportunities, games and much more. The heated swimming pool will be open so bring your swim suits to ride the water slide.

Firefighter Tim Brooks of the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) has been named Mission Viejo's 2016 OCFA Employee of the Year.

Firefighter Brooks, who has served Mission Viejo for eight years, is known for his vast experience and longtime dedication to this community.

Young and old alike are joining the pickleball craze in Mission Viejo and now you can too. The Sierra Recreation Center is offering 5-week beginner pickleball clinics on Fridays from December 30 through January 27 and February 10 through March 10.

If you need sandbags to prevent possible flooding, don't forget we offer them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through April on a first-come, first-served basis. Bags are pre-filled and are limited to 10 bags per resident. You can pick-up sandbags throughout the City at the following locations:

Mark Joson, a longtime Information Technology Specialist, has been named Mission Viejo's 2016 Employee of the Year.

Mark is known as a team player and innovator who puts his heart and soul into everything he does for the City of Mission Viejo. He has the innate ability of identifying and implementing new technologies that enhance efficiency, reduce operating costs and provide a high level of service.

Outgoing Mission Viejo Mayor Frank Ury takes viewers on a comical and poignant ride in his State of the City address, which aired during the City Council's meeting on Tuesday.

The City of Mission Viejo Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking young and upcoming amateur bands to play in a Battle of the Bands in January. 

Local teenage bands are sought to compete for forever bragging rights and the title of Mission Viejo's "Best Band" from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. January 20 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Have you noticed the newly resurfaced basketball courts at Curtis, Pacific Hills and Melinda parks? The work was done by the City's Public Services Department, which regularly resurfaces basketball courts at Mission Viejo's many parks to provide year-round enjoyment for people of all ages.

Resurfacing the courts keeps the playing surfaces vivid and attractive and adds a slip-resistant surface.
