Animal Services

Want an easygoing furry friend to add to your home? Drop by the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center to meet one of our senior cats.  Often overlooked, these sweet cats are hidden gems and make great pets.

Their personalities are already developed, so the cat you fall in love here will be the same at home. They're done growing, have outgrown their adolescent behaviors and are ready to be in forever homes.

On a recent trip to rescue dogs from a shelter in the Inland Empire, a Mission Viejo Animal Services Center Supervisor was immediately charmed by an adorable "chug" - a half pug, half Chihuahua - named Wonton, who had arrived at that facility as a stray with a severely damaged right rear leg.  Soon Wonton was on his way to Mission Viejo and Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) paid for the necessary surgery.

THE BIG BOOK OF TRICKS FOR THE BEST DOG EVER:

Oreo is a sweet Shih Tzu who's found herself homeless late in life.   Turned in as a stray in Mission Viejo, Oreo was not in the best shape when the Animal Services Officer picked her up.  Her hair was matted, her teeth were bad, and she was confused about her new situation.  But, with the help of our nonprofit Dedicated Animal Welfare Group, Oreo has been groomed, examined and had dental work.

Head to the Norman P. Murray Center on March 19 to see some amazing dog tricks and meet famous dog trainers and authors.

Larry Kay, who penned the award-winning "Training the Best Dog Ever," Chris Perondi, the country's top stunt and trick trainer, and his furry cover star Vinny Valentino will dazzle and amaze you during their presentation starting at 6 p.m. at 24932 Veterans Way.

First, I’d like to say thank you for such a warm welcome!  It is wonderful to work with such a passionate and talented group of people!

We are fortunate in South Orange County to live close to some of the most beautiful open space and natural areas in the world.  Our region is known as a biodiversity hot spot, meaning we have some of the richest species diversity on the planet.  This means we are lucky to live near abundant wildlife.

We are excited to share information about how to live near wildlife. When spring arrives, so will baby birds! Here is some information from Audubon Society about what to do if you come across a baby bird.
