Animal Services

Here at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center we are thankful for the commitment our wonderful, dedicated volunteers make to our homeless animals every day. Recently the following volunteers reached an important milestone in their volunteer service.

1000:
Margie Cushman - Cat Care

500:
Mary Ellen Goese - Cat Care
Ellana Mohajeri - Dog Walker
Patti Morrissette - Dog Walker

Mission Viejo Animal Services Center began a Dog License Canvassing Program in the Rancho Santa Margarita incorporated communities of Trabuco Canyon, including Robinson Ranch and Dove Canyon.  When MVAS took over as the contract Animal Services Agency for Rancho Santa Margarita, the previous agency was unable to provide accurate records of licensed dogs for the geographical area.

Adorable Maltese/terrier mix Webster is a tiny dog, weighing in at only 7 pounds, but what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in personality!  Although he may take a while to warm up to strangers, he bonds strongly to people he knows.

Webster, however, is choosy about his canine pals, so he would probably be best as the only dog in the home.   Webster would thrive in a quiet home with a person or family willing to dote on him 24/7.

A bird caught in fishing line was freed this week thanks to a Mission Viejo Animal Services Officer and caring lifeguards at the lake.

Officer Galeano responded to a call from Lake Mission Viejo lifeguards regarding a bird that appeared to have a broken leg. Once on scene, the officer discovered the bird, an American coot, was having a tough time walking thanks to fishing line wrapped tightly around its leg. With tender care, the officer cut away the fishing line and noticed the coot was OK. It quickly returned to its cover.

Two of three kittens rescued after being trapped between a window and retaining wall at Laguna Hills High School last week are now available for adoption.

The kittens - Shayne and Ashlyn - are 2-month-old domestic cats who have been receiving tender loving care since they were saved by our Animal Services Officer and arrived at the shelter. Their sibling was just adopted.

Want to add some activity in your life?  Look no further than Piper, a 1 ½-year-old pit bull-terrier mix who is as beautiful as she is sweet.  With boundless energy, Piper would thrive in a home where she gets plenty of exercise, a structured routine and some training.  She seems to like most other dogs, but she definitely wants to be the queen of the house, so a submissive male canine friend would be best.

Three stray kittens have a new lease on life after being rescued by a Mission Viejo Animal Services Officer this week.

On Tuesday, Animal Services Officer Galeano responded to Laguna Hills High School after school officials reported that kittens were stuck between a window and retaining wall on campus.

In the personality cards of life, the Aces of the deck often signify a strong personality, one who is eager to express his or her individuality and unique quirks.  This holds true for 1-year-old Ace - with his gregariously magnetic personality and desire to be loved.

Due to the recent storms, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center received a request from Laguna Beach Animal Control to provide temporary housing for some area animals in need of shelter.

The Mission Viejo Center has offered a welcome home for these animals, and stands ready and happy to assist local animal service agencies as the severe weather moves through the area.

Badger is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. This 9-year-old Chihuahua came to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center in November as a stray with an extremely painful ear infection. With the help of the nonprofit DAWG, Badger was treated and is now pain free. He would love a forever home with lots of love and someone to give him belly scratches and an occasional treat or two.
