Animal Services

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is enjoying the fruit of some young entrepreneurs’ labor.

This week, members of the Moms of Saddleback Valley Club dropped by the center with some kids ages 3-10 who raised $120 for the homeless animals through sales at a lemonade stand.

Nacho is around 4 years old and is believed to be an Italian Greyhound mixed with a Chihuahua.

Affectionate, playful, sensitive and alert, his personality closely matches the Italian Greyhound. He has a cute under bite and tall slender build. With his long legs, he enjoys running around and playing with the small dogs at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center and looks forward to his daily walks with our volunteers. He can also be a snuggly lapdog and loves tummy rubs.

In an effort to find sweet cats new homes, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center and Dedicated Animal Welfare Group are covering all adoption fees for adult cats throughout this month.  The only cost to you is the $20 microchip fee.

Sweet Shari is a 3-year-old Chihuahua-Dachshund mix who was brought to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center when her owner was admitted to a nursing home.  A little shy at first, Shari warms up quickly and will embody the definition of her name.

Meet Alf, a lovable large-and-in-charge 2-year-old brown tabby.  Alf is a friendly cat who enjoys chasing toys, running through cat tunnels and snuggling inside the nearest box he can find. Alf is independent but always curious of what is going on around him and confident enough to approach anyone he meets.

It won’t be long before he displays his kitten-like bursts of energy and starts running around the house. Alf loves to be around people but would prefer to be the only cat in the home.

Ralphy is a 5-year-old tan and black wire-haired terrier, who is a sweet and shy fellow seeking a caring home.  Although his background is unknown, it seems that he had very few positive interactions with people and the outside world, as he can be timid at first and is cautious when encountering new situations.

The City of Mission Viejo Animal Services Center has some tips to make your 4th of July celebration happy for you and your pet.

Fireworks. Animals that are sensitive to loud noises can find the booms of the firework displays worrisome, triggering anxiety or even panic. Signs of anxiety may include: hiding or pacing in the home, panting, whining, barking, trembling, or excessive licking.

With hot temperatures in the forecast this summer, pet owners are reminded to take the following precautions to keep their animals happy, healthy and safe.

Help celebrate Adopt a Shelter Cat Month by visiting the cats and kittens at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.  Millions of cats and kittens nationwide are waiting for their forever homes, including many currently available at the Center.

Here are some ways that you can help cats during this special month:

It's kitten season at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center where 20 adorable kittens are available for immediate adoption.

In fact, to ensure these friendly felines find good homes faster, Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) is sponsoring an adoption promotion so that each kitten is only $20 for approved applicants.

If you are considering adding a loving kitten to your family, now's the time because this promotion ends on June 1.
