With American flags proudly displayed all over the community for Independence Day, now is the time to properly retire an Old Glory which may be torn, faded or frayed.

Tattered, unserviceable flags can be dropped off in specially marked boxes during business hours at City Hall, 200 Civic Center, or the Mission Viejo Library at 100 Civic Center.

The flags will be picked up by Boy Scout Troop #603, chartered by the Mission Viejo Elks Lodge, to be honorably destroyed in a flag-retirement ceremony.

The Toll Roads is mailing new sticker transponders this month to FasTrak account holders to replace the hard-case transponders currently in use. The new bandage-size transponder adheres to the inside of a windshield to collect tolls.

It works on all California's toll bridges, lanes and roads, officials say. The FasTrak sticker transponders will be immediately interoperable throughout the state at all toll facilities. The new stickers come sans the $2 per month user fee for folks who have a transponder but rarely use the 241 or other toll roads.
