With excessive heat in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, the City is encouraging residents to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The Mission Viejo Library at 100 Civic Center; Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way; and Marguerite Tennis Pavilion at 27474 Casta Del Sol all serve as comfortable cooling centers for folks to beat the heat.

 

 


 
To stay safe during extreme heat, remember the following tips:

The lazy days of summer may be here but that doesn’t mean you should scrap your college aspirations. That’s right, you can learn how to get into the college of your dreams by taking this free College Essay Writing Workshop on June 28.

Led by Julia Savea of C2 Education, the two-hour workshop is at 2 p.m. in the City Hall Saddleback Room at 200 Civic Center. It will teach you the top 10 college essay tips and what to avoid. The course is for teens ages 13 to 17.

Celebrate Mission Viejo’s storied past, present day and future during the Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Breakfast June 21 at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club. 
 
With 2018 marking the City of Mission Viejo’s 30th year of incorporation, the event, which starts at 7:30 a.m., will focus on our rich history and what it took to become the icon of South Orange County. Guests will get a glimpse of what’s to come and future opportunities for families and businesses. 
 

Learn about Mission Viejo's storied past by visiting the Heritage House from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at Melinda Park. 

The City's Heritage House was established in 2003 to educate folks about our rich history.  Formerly a Mission Viejo Company new-home sales center, the house once attracted prospective buyers seeking their dream home.  Today, it's where visitors come to learn about the people and events that made Mission Viejo "The California Promise."

The countdown is underway until Relay For Life of South Orange County takes step June 9-10 at Oso Viejo Community Park. 
 

Hundreds of elite athletes are gearing up for the annual Orange County Triathlon-Duathlon on Sunday, June 3 at Lake Mission Viejo.

This Olympic-distance event traverses Mission Viejo neighborhoods and surrounding communities and includes a 1.5K swim in Lake Mission Viejo. Athletes then ride along the 40K bike course through Santiago Canyon, with part of the race crossing the 1984 Olympic finish line near the lake. With challenging paths, trails and streets, the 10K tests the runners’ stamina and agility.

The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center will be closed this weekend while the annual AYSO Mission Viejo youth soccer tournament takes place.

The June 2-3 closure will accommodate the many visitors expected to flock to the center and neighboring Oso Viejo Community Park for the AYSO soccer tournament. The community center will resume normal operations on Monday, June 4.
