City Clerk

The City and Southwest Voter Registration Education Project, in evaluating the best way to alleviate all inconsistencies with the California Voting Rights Act, agreed to replace Mission Viejo’s current at-large voting system. A new at-large voting process will be crafted that enhances the voting voice of all residents. This change won’t happen until 2020. The 2018 election in November will proceed in the traditional fashion.

In light of the tragic drowning at the Sierra Recreation Center on Sunday, the City of Mission Viejo, Orange County Sheriff's Department and Orange County Fire Authority are working to ensure residents know how to stay safe in and around the water.

Within the last two weeks, the number of drownings in Orange County has surged, with eight drowning-related incidents - five adults and three kids. Six of them were fatal and three of the 911 calls came from Mission Viejo.

The City of Mission Viejo deeply regrets to report that a one year old child passed away from drowning this evening. The child was attending the Sierra Recreation facility with parents and friends when the incident occurred. All efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful. The Sierra pool will be closed until further notice while investigations into the incident are carried out.

The City will update the community as and when possible.

Congratulations to the Mission Viejo Girls Softball 14U team that will compete in the Western Nationals in Salem, Oregon July 29 to August 4.

The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center will be closed Saturday, July 21 while the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints hosts its Pioneer Days event on the Village Green.
