The City of Mission Viejo is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 19. 

With a theme of "Be the Lifeline Patients Need," the blood drive is from noon to 6 pm in the Saddleback Room at the Mission Viejo Civic Center at 200 Civic Center.

The Community of Character Committee is offering a free online tutoring program entitled "Tutoring with Character" for students in kindergarten to fifth grade. The tutoring will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 pm every Wednesday through May 26.

The deadline for the first round of applications for the State of California's Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program was extended from January 8 to January 13, 2021 at 11:59 pm.

Along with the $500 million already approved for this program, Gov. Gavin Newsom is asking lawmakers for more money to help small businesses and cultural institutions affected by the pandemic. If approved, more than a billion dollars would be given to those hit hard by COVID-19.

Mission Viejo High School is inviting families to attend its "Greatest Showcase" from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 11. 

The live virtual event will feature more than 80 faculty members, 40 coaches, students, guidance counselors and administrators to answer questions and demonstrate what Mission Viejo High School has to offer your student as an incoming freshman. 

Krista Oberholtzer has been named the City of Mission Viejo's Employee of the Year. 

Krista has worked as a Payroll and Accounting Technician for the last three years. Her stellar work has earned the respect of her peers and supervisors alike.  

To maintain public safety, the City Council in an emergency session on Monday voted to authorize the City Attorney to file or join an amicus brief supporting Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes' appeal to a court ruling requiring the local jail population be cut in half, a move that would release dangerous and violent criminals back into the community.

Hosted by the Mission Viejo Activities Committee, the contest featured 55 homes with residents competing for forever bragging rights and recognition in categories that include Most Humorous, Best Theme, Light Up the Neighborhood, Most Creative, Best Use of Lights and Showstopper. 

The OC Health Care Agency is deploying mobile field hospitals (MFHs) to local hospitals this week to support facilities overwhelmed by a surge in COVID-19 patients.

The County reported 2,173 more coronavirus cases on Tuesday with 10.4 percent of adult intensive care unit beds available in the local hospital system.

California launched a voluntary smartphone tool designed to alert people if they have spent time near someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Announced earlier this week, the CA Notify app uses a new smartphone feature called "exposure notifications" that users opt-in to receive.
