The City of Mission Viejo will host a public plaque dedication ceremony on Tuesday, October 29 at the new Lakeside Park nestled at the corner of Marguerite and Alicia Parkway. 

The one-hour unveiling ceremony, which starts at 3 pm, is meant to pay tribute to the young lives lost too soon to drug overdose and inspire people who choose to live drug free. 

The event comes on the heels of the City's 31st annual Walk Against Drugs and is part of an ongoing effort to combat drug and alcohol abuse among our youth.

To preserve more than 100 acres of open space and connect the heart of Mission Viejo, the City Council this week approved the acquisition of the Casta Del Sol Golf Course. On Tuesday, Mayor Greg Raths signed the paperwork to open escrow on the property, which is expected to close on November 8.

The City of Mission Viejo is teaming up with the Orange County Health Care Agency for its annual Flu Shot Clinic and Mini Resource Fair from 10 am to 2 pm on Friday, November 1 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

Free flu shots for folks 18 and older are available while supplies last. Drive-through shots will be available for patrons who are mobility impaired. The Resource Fair will offer guests valuable information, resources and the chance to win a prize. People can also make a voluntary donation to support senior services.

The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District has confirmed the first mosquito sample infected with West Nile virus (WNV) in the City of Mission Viejo.

The mosquitoes were collected in a mosquito trap located near San Rafael and Napoli Way on October 10. An inspector will monitor the area for any additional findings. 

The Mission Viejo City Council on Tuesday continued discussion regarding the potential acquisition of the Casta Del Sol public golf course to preserve more than 100 acres of open space in the heart of the City to Monday, October 14. 

If the Mission Viejo City Council votes to acquire the Casta Del Sol public golf course on October 8, more than 100 acres of open space will be preserved and the heart of the City will be connected, essentially providing the community with convenient access and a one-of-a-kind walking and biking amenity (see a map of the connectivity here).

The Shops at Mission Viejo is partnering with Mission Hospital and Valiant Women to host the 17th annual Think Pink Breast Health Wall of Honor, giving the community the chance to contribute to the wall and honor breast cancer survivors and patients.

The County of Orange Health Care Agency and City of Mission Viejo are seeking volunteers to participate in a 90-minute focus group on Wednesday, October 9 as part of an effort to thwart opioid abuse and overdose in the region.

The focus group is from 6-7:30 pm at the Norman Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

To preserve more than 100 acres of open space, the City Council is considering the acquisition of the Casta Del Sol golf course off Marguerite Parkway. On Tuesday, the City Council moved the discussion to October to allow for additional public input.
