Kids and adults alike are in for a lunar delight on Monday, April 10 when local nonprofit Science Heads launches its new Mobile Astronomical Observatory at the Mission Viejo Library.

A special ribbon cutting takes place at noon in the Kershaw Garden outside of the library at 100 Civic Center. An open house follows from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. giving folks the chance to view active solar prominences, flares and sunspots and check out interactive displays. The fun includes free hands-on science activities for children and adults including sun pictures, straw rockets and more.

Calling all teens!  On March 18, the Mission Viejo library will host an outdoor art project as part of its Teen Pop-Up MakerSpace series.

Lesley Stahl, one of America’s most recognized broadcast journalists, will discuss her New York Times bestselling book “Becoming Grandma: The Joys and Science of the New Grandparenting” in Mission Viejo on April 21.

This legendary “60 Minutes” reporter will appear in the City’s popular Writers Present series at 7 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Debbie Macomber, a #1 New York Times bestselling author and one of today's most popular writers with more than 200 million copies of her books in print, will appear in Mission Viejo on Tuesday, March 21.

Chevy Stevens, a New York Times bestselling author of thriller novels, will appear in the City’s popular Writers Present program on Tuesday, March 14.

Stevens will discuss her latest novel “NEVER LET YOU GO” at 7 p.m. in the Jacaranda Room at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Bestselling author Tim Dorsey will talk about his 20th laugh-riot thriller "Clownfish Blues" during the next Writers Present program at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28.

If you're planning a trip abroad this spring or summer, now's the time to apply for your passport.

With the high demand for service this time of year, the Mission Viejo Library is expanding its Passport Acceptance Office hours to meet the public's needs.

Beginning February 7, the Passport Acceptance Office will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as well as on Saturday by appointment.  

Trained agents will snap your photo and process and mail your passport.  Expect to receive your new passport within 4-6 weeks.
