Mark your calendar for the “Boots, Beer and Barbecue” bash on Sunday, July 16 that will benefit members of the City’s adopted Headquarters Battalion of the First Marine Division.

Hosted by the Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee, the event is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center at 24932 Veterans Way.

Guests will enjoy a barbecue buffet by Outback Steakhouse, kicking their boots up to tunes from a live DJ, Line Dance lessons and camaraderie.

The City of Mission Viejo is now accepting applications for the Community Services Funding Program.  Funds are available for non-profit organizations serving Mission Viejo residents, with a focus on agencies providing human services. The application deadline is Friday, August 25, 2017.  

As part of an ongoing effort to prevent drownings, the City of Mission Viejo is hosting its free Water Safety Day on Saturday, June 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Montanoso Recreation Center, 25800 Montanoso Drive.

Designed for the entire family, Water Safety Day will feature drowning-prevention tips, emergency responders reacting to a "mock" drowning, educational exhibits and free water-watcher tags and whistles as well as recreational swim and games. 

Learn to Play Bocce Ball
If you’ve always wanted to learn to play bocce, now’s your chance. Enjoy an easygoing pace playing on the City’s beautiful bocce courts from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 7.  All equipment is provided. 

What to Expect at Your Annual Medicare Wellness Visit
Medicare covers an annual appointment to discuss your plan for preventive care in the coming year. On Thursday, June 8 at 1 p.m., Dr. Arnold Cuenca will discuss the different components of this visit and how to get the most out of it.

Celebrate the unofficial start of summer by making a splash on Friday, June 9 at the Teen Scene Splash.

Middle school students will enjoy their favorite tunes pumped out by DJ Mad Platter from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Montanoso Recreation Center, 25800 Montanoso Drive.

If you have a green thumb and even if you don't, this new free gardening lecture series is perfect for you.

Led by OC Master Gardeners, this monthly series will teach you valuable tips for producing a vibrant garden - whether you're new to growing or a seasoned expert.

The countdown is underway for the 2nd Annual Mission Viejo Film Festival from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Saturday, June 3 at Saddleback College's McKinney Theatre.
 
The Film Festival will showcase aspiring filmmakers as well as support City of Hope's Pediatric Center for Cancer Research and Treatment.
 
The short screenings will be based on categories that include "Young Filmmakers: Exploring Mission Viejo"; "Short Films: High School"; "Short Films: College/Indie"; and "Music Videos."
 

Whether it's learning new ways to lower your risk for disease, feeling great at any age or enjoying a leisurely Sunday with friends, the Norman P. Murray Center's free and low-cost programs are designed to benefit local seniors.

Here's what's on tap this month:

Residents of all ages are invited to enjoy a Concert on the Courts on Saturday, May 6 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion.

This fun and unique event from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. gives families and individuals the chance to dance and sing to great tunes pumped out by classic rock band "The Answer."  This special event also features crafts, ping pong and food for purchase from gourmet food trucks The Cut and Stickaberry.

Mission Viejo students can tap their creative sides, learn about art, music and science and gain assistance with their homework through after-school programs at local schools and City facilities.
