Recreation

With a new school year just around the corner, the City of Mission Viejo is collecting school supplies for children in need.

Through August 7, you can drop off new backpacks, lunchboxes, pencils & pens, calculators, paper, binders, notebooks & dividers, glue sticks, erasers and crayons and markers to the Norman P. Murray Center at 24932 Veterans Way.

You're invited to make a splash at a special Cardboard Boat Derby event on Saturday, August 12 at the Sierra Recreation Center.

The fun takes place 3:30-6 p.m. and includes an exciting derby race where teams will build a boat out of cardboard and duct tape and attempt to race to the other side of the pool without sinking. Before the competition heats up, guests will enjoy games, music and food.

If you’ve never been to a luau, now’s your chance without even leaving Mission Viejo!  That’s right: On Sunday, August 13, the Senior Citizens Activities Committee is hosting a festive luau for the entire family from 1-3 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The City of Mission Viejo is offering Recreation and Tennis Center members a great new way to maintain their recreation and fitness memberships and register for recreation classes, fitness and aquatics programs and more through an easy, fast and secure software system.

Four Mission Viejo City staffers are being credited with saving the life of a man who suffered a heart attack at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion.

On July 1, longtime City staffer Sam Cho was playing tennis with a 74-year-old member of the Tennis Pavilion when the man suddenly went into cardiac arrest.

The City of Mission Viejo is seeking caring, concerned citizens to join its new Drug Prevention Coalition.

The coalition is for people interested in learning about current drug trends and challenges facing our community who will work to prevent the spread of drug addiction and dependency.  The City and local support group Solace of Orange County are teaming up for this effort.

If you love live local music, chances are you’re already familiar with the notorious soulful rockers of Family Style. This popular band has been playing blues, soul and rock and roll at local venues since 1989.

On Friday, July 21, Family Style will grace the Mission Viejo stage at Oso Viejo Park for a free Concert on the Green from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 24932 Veterans Way.

Are you ready to enjoy summer Mission Viejo style? Yes, then register today for three fun events designed to build community.

First up is the Family Fun Night on Saturday, July 15 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Montanoso Recreation and Fitness Center.

If you’re a fitness professional looking for an exciting new adventure, we want YOU!

The City of Mission Viejo is seeking energetic certified fitness and aqua aerobics instructors to lead an array of classes at its recreation centers such as Aqua Aerobics, boot camp, yoga and more.
