If you’ve always wanted to experience the color, excitement and pageantry of the Rose Parade up close and personal, now’s your chance. The City of Mission Viejo is offering a New Year’s Day excursion to Pasadena for the 129th Tournament of Roses Parade

Carren Chaney, a longtime Community Services Coordinator, has been named Mission Viejo’s 2017 Employee of the Year.
 
A 12-year employee of the City, Carren is known as a role model and someone who exemplifies customer service.
 
She is responsible for hiring, training and evaluating lifeguards at the City’s recreation centers. Among other duties, Carren enhances programming options at the facilities and citywide special events and works diligently to ensure the City’s vision is implemented every day.
 

The City of Mission Viejo is facilitating a record number of projects this year that are helping local Boy Scouts reach the prestigious rank of Eagle.

By year’s end, nearly 50 projects will have been completed that not only help the scouts reach the highest ranking attainable in the boy scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America but also benefit our environment and beautify the area.
 
Kudos to the latest scouts to step up to the plate and complete projects in our City:

The Kaleidoscope is gearing up to host a special Tree Lighting event on Saturday, December 2.

The center will host a holiday boutique and children's activities beginning at 5 p.m. Two hours later, caroling and entertainment will culminate in the lighting of the center's holiday tree.

The family event includes face painting, cookie decorating, crafts, hot cocoa and live music.

Kaleidoscope is located at 27741 Crown Valley Parkway.

Have you ever wanted to serve on a grand jury? Well, now’s your chance.  The Superior Court of Orange County is seeking qualified individuals to serve on the 2018-2019 Orange County Grand Jury.

Book lovers rejoice! Fun and engaging Penguin Random House representatives Wade Lucas and Steve Atinsky will discuss the newest book releases for avid readers, book-club groups and holiday gifts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5 in the City Hall Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

This free event includes a lively discussion, pre-publication book giveaways and light refreshments. In addition, Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore will be on hand offering free gift-wrapping for any new books that you buy.

When most people think about ground movement, they probably think of an earthquake, especially here in California. However, the ground can move without a quake.

As part of an ongoing effort to educate residents in emergency preparedness, the City of Mission Viejo is offering detailed information through the Emergency Survival Program (ESP).  This guide features monthly topics, historical information and what you can do now to prepare. December's focus is on landslides and mudslides.

Santa Paws is coming to town for a great cause. On Saturday, December 9, you and your pet can have your photo snapped with Santa and help support the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.
 
The holiday event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winter Wonderland Village nestled in the Kershaw Garden at the City’s Civic Center, 200 Civic Center.
 
Cost is $20 for the portrait with Santa, and all proceeds will benefit the City’s animal shelter at 28095 Hillcrest. Photos will be printed immediately following the sitting.
