Mission Viejo

If you are looking for a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon and beat the heat, then make plans for the screening of “Kung Fu Panda 2” on Sunday, August 20 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

The event, which begins at 2 pm, is sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee and coincides with August’s character trait of “self- control.”

If you missed this year’s out-of-this-world Symphony in the Cities event at Oso Viejo Community Park, don’t fret. The City captured the magic of this superhero event last month in the following 60-second video. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more news and information about upcoming community events!

A brilliant violinist who has appeared in videos with music icons like Elton John, Sheryl Crow and Sting will perform in a special concert with an accomplished pianist on Saturday, August 12.

The musical concert will feature Jessica Haddy and Golnaz Lessani performing at 7 pm at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The City of Mission Viejo continues to enjoy the fruit of local scouts’ labor through planting projects that benefit our environment and help beautify the area.

The following Boy Scouts completed projects this summer that put them in line to obtain the prestigious rank of Eagle.

Samual Brown of Troop 661 rallied about 40 volunteers to plant 800 drought-tolerate plants on two slope areas along El Moro Trail next to Entidad greenbelt area.

Check out the free programs and family luau on tap this month at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

Do you know a hero in Mission Viejo? Our City is now seeking applications for Male and Female Veterans of the Year.  These are folks who bravely served our country and continue to serve our community by giving back. Indeed, they are heroes.

We launched this program in 2011 to celebrate local veterans from all wars and conflicts. Since then, veteran honorees have been recognized during our annual Veterans Day ceremony.

If you would like the chance to meet your Mayor while enjoying the great Mission Viejo outdoors, then make plans to Walk with Mayor Wendy Bucknum on Saturday, August 5.

Grab your friends, pets and neighbors and meet up at the chess table, near the bocce courts, outside the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center at 8 a.m. for a walk with Mayor Bucknum along the Oso Creek Trail. This Walking Town Hall is a great opportunity to chat with our Mayor while getting some exercise.

The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center is at 24932 Veterans Way.

Out of the Box Learning & Arts and the City of Mission Viejo Friends of the Arts have teamed up to present Disney’s “My Son Pinocchio, JR!” at 6 p.m. Friday, July 28.

Local students in grades 2 – 9 will perform this charming Disney classic that has captured the hearts of countless people.
