Mission Viejo

After almost one year of heavy public participation, a future vision for the community's core area is being presented to the public at Tuesday's City Council meeting. The residents and business owners are working hard with City staff to keep the quality of life the best in the county. Despite huge public transparency, some anonymous source is spreading blatant mistruths about the shopping areas being converted to high density residential uses. A photo of the false information is shown with this post and is a horrid mistruth!

The City Council on Tuesday, March 28 will consider approving the Core Area Vision Plan that may ultimately shape the future of the heart of Mission Viejo.

With spring break just around the corner, the City of Mission Viejo is encouraging parents to register their kids now for the action-packed Spring Break Adventure Camp at the Montanoso Recreation Center.

The camp takes place in two sessions - April 3-6 and April 10-13 -  at 25800 Montanoso Drive to coincide with spring break schedules of both the Capistrano Unified School District and Saddleback Valley Unified School District.

The spring 2017 Singles Flex League for 3.0 to 4.5 players begins April 2 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, 27474 Casta Del Sol.

Men and women 18 years and older are invited to take part in this popular program that pits competitive singles against each other in exciting 10 weeks of play.

Each player will play nine matches during the regular season, with the top eight players in each division advancing to playoffs on week 10. The $28 league fee includes balls, prizes and a barbecue during finals.

The Mission Viejo community is mourning the loss of its Hometown Hero - Mark "Ziggy" Wilczynski - who died Tuesday at the age of 95.

Ziggy, whom Council Member Trish Kelley affectionately nicknamed "Mr. Mission Viejo," was involved with this community for more than four decades.

"Ziggy was the most caring and genuine individual you could ever meet," said Mayor Wendy Bucknum. "His passing is a huge loss to our community."

An original commercial shopping center built more than four decades ago will receive a facelift, under a plan the City's Planning and Transportation Commission approved this month.

Built in 1976, the Alicia Business Center at 24002 Via Fabricante houses five different buildings with a mix of retail, office and automotive uses on a 2.71-acre site.

The Mission Viejo Bocce Club gained forever bragging rights after clinching the club's first competition.

About 20 members traveled to north Orange County March 15 to compete against the City of Tustin's Bocce Club.

"It was an exciting and interesting match with each team determined to win," said Community Services Supervisor Barb Cassidy.  "The host team provided a spread of refreshments to boost energy, and everyone had a blast!"

Mission Viejo residents listen up: If you are proud of your drought-tolerant yard, then show it off by entering the "Plants, Camera, Action!" Photo Contest today.

The contest is a call to residents throughout Orange County to share photos of their California-friendly landscapes and plants to prevent water pollution and runoff and keep our waterways clean.
