As part of an ongoing effort to prepare for emergencies and disasters, the City of Mission Viejo held a bleeding control class this week for employees.

Led by Mission Hospital Trauma Medical Director Dr. Almaas Shaikh, the free class was designed to better prepare staff to respond to emergency medical situations like a mass causality event or natural disaster.

Edwards Theatre in Kaleidoscope is planning to replace its old seating with luxurious seating – akin to other theatres in Orange County – under a plan submitted to the City of Mission Viejo.

The public is invited to a screening of the inspiring film "A More Perfect Union" on Sunday, February 19 at Mission Viejo City Hall.  The event is sponsored by the Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee and begins at 2 p.m.  The film presentation is designed to highlight Mission Viejo's Character trait of "unity" and commemorate Presidents Day.

The City is now seeking adult and student members for its Community of Character Committee.

The committee helps plan activities and outreach to promote good character in our schools and community.  The teen subcommittee provides a fun way for students age 14 and older to strengthen their high school resumes, build leadership skills, plan events, fulfill community service hour requirements and make a difference in their community.

The Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo has expanded its service in the community by donating $5,000 to the music programs at local elementary schools.

On Monday, the club presented two $2,500 checks to the music directors at Capistrano Unified School District and Saddleback Valley Unified School District. The money was raised from the club’s holiday See’s Candies fundraiser.

Allison Couch of Saddleback Valley Unified School District said the district will use the donation to repair and replace instruments in the 4th through 6th grade music programs.

Law enforcement will step up patrols this weekend as part of the “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” campaign – urging football fans to call the right play on Super Bowl weekend and pass the keys to a sober driver before the drinking begins.
