If you would like the chance to meet your Mayor while enjoying the great Mission Viejo outdoors, then make plans to Walk with Mayor Wendy Bucknum on Saturday, August 5.

Grab your friends, pets and neighbors and meet up at the chess table, near the bocce courts, outside the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center at 8 a.m. for a walk with Mayor Bucknum along the Oso Creek Trail. This Walking Town Hall is a great opportunity to chat with our Mayor while getting some exercise.

The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center will be closed Saturday, July 29 while the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints hosts its Pioneer Days event on the Village Green.

The closure will accommodate routine maintenance of the facility as well as the many visitors expected to flock to the special event. The facility will resume normal operations at noon on Sunday.

Mission Viejo businesses are invited to a free training designed to protect them from cyber-attacks.

Registration is now available for the specialized training that takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 10 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Mark your calendar for a free screening of the dramatic film "Hidden Figures" on Sunday, July 16 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

Sponsored by the Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee, the film presentation starts at 2 p.m. and coincides with Mission Viejo's July character trait of “fairness.”

Save the date for Wednesday, July 19 when bestselling authors Michelle Gable and Laura Dave discuss and sign their new books “The Book of Summer” and “Hello, Sunshine" at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

This delightful free event includes free light refreshments and a no-host wine bar beginning at 6:15 p.m. Then at 7 p.m. the authors will discuss their books, followed by a Q & A with the audience and book signing.

With excessive heat in the forecast this weekend, the City of Mission Viejo is encouraging residents to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The Mission Viejo Library at 100 Civic Center; Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way; and Marguerite Tennis Pavilion at 27474 Casta Del Sol all serve as comfortable cooling centers for folks to beat the heat.

If you love live local music, chances are you’re already familiar with the notorious soulful rockers of Family Style. This popular band has been playing blues, soul and rock and roll at local venues since 1989.
 
On Friday, July 21, Family Style will grace the Mission Viejo stage at Oso Viejo Park for a free Concert on the Green from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 24932 Veterans Way.
 

Learn to Play Bocce Ball
If you’ve always wanted to learn to play bocce, now’s your chance. Enjoy an easygoing pace playing on the City’s beautiful bocce courts from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 7.  All equipment is provided. 

What to Expect at Your Annual Medicare Wellness Visit
