To help families struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Communications Commission rolled out a new Emergency Broadband Program. The program will provide eligible households with discounts on monthly internet service from participating broadband providers.

Eligible households can receive discounts of up to $50 per month for broadband service. It also provides a one-time discount of up to $100 on a computer or tablet. Discount prices are dependent on each provider.

Orange County Human Relations is now accepting applications through May 31 for its 2021 Virtual Youth Leadership Institute - a free weeklong opportunity for any Orange County high school student.  Students will learn about human relations and social justice topics including youth-led movements, restorative practices and communication skills.  Exercises in what they learn through simulations and role playing will assist in preparing students to bring these new skills to their community.  

Have you heard of the City's Housing Rehabilitation Program? This longtime program helps folks with low to moderate incomes improve their living conditions and extend the life of their homes.

Through the program, Mission Viejo residents can make heating, plumbing and driveway repairs. They can install new roofs, add a new coat of exterior paint to improve the home's appearance, replace windows and doors and make energy-conservation repairs, among others.

The City Council on May 11 will consider a draft ordinance that would allow residential beekeeping in the City of Mission Viejo. 

The proposed ordinance stems from a citizen who spoke at a Council meeting last year and asked Council Members to consider adopting regulations to allow private residents to perform beekeeping activities on their single-family residential properties. Read more in this article

Featuring Mission Hospital Chief Executive Seth R. Teigen, the virtual program is from 8-9 am on Thursday, May 13. 

Mission Viejo will pay homage to the men and women who gave their lives for our freedoms during a Virtual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 31.

Happy anniversary to Michael and Karen O'Meara! The Mission Viejo couple met at the 10th tee box at Oso Creek Golf Course in 2015 and later married during a virtual celebration.

Their love affair on the greens began that year when Michael met fellow golfer Karen after she and two friends noticed Michael golfing alone and asked if they could join him. Karen and Michael enjoyed golfing together so much that they began meeting every Friday at the course. A year of golfing flew by and they became good friends. 

Every Californian 16 and older is now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. To help end the pandemic and protect you, your loved ones and those around you, the County and State are encouraging everyone who can to register for the vaccine.   

La Paz Road at the I-5 freeway is expected to be completely closed overnight Friday, April 16 from 9 pm to 8 am Saturday, April 17, according to the Orange County Transportation Authority. 

The nighttime full closure is necessary to allow crews to safely perform work on the new bridge deck. Along with the La Paz Road closure, Alicia Parkway northbound off- and on-ramps will also be closed from 11 pm to 5 am. 

Motorists should expect delays and plan alternate routes.  

The best American swimmers will compete in Mission Viejo this weekend in the TYR Pro Swim Series meet at the Marguerite Aquatics Center. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the public can watch the action via livestream only. (No spectators allowed.)
