With continued rain in the forecast, the City of Mission Viejo is postponing its three-day planned closure of the Golf Course to March 30-April 1.

The closure, originally set for March 16-18, will allow the City to make much-needed improvements including aerifying the greens and fairways, painting the building and slurry sealing the parking lot.

The second and third Orange County cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) were identified this week as presumptive positives, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. Both cases had a history of recent international travel to a country with known local spread of COVID-19. The Orange County Health Care Agency is identifying and contacting any community exposures to these cases.

Red Bull Cliff Diver and former US national 10m champion David Colturi has joined the Mission Viejo Nadadores Diving Team as an athlete and coach.

A diver since the tender age of 5, David worked his way up the ranks to become a two-time NCAA Academic All American; seven-time All American; Big 10 Champion on 1m; two-time Bronze Medalist at the 2009 World University Games; and a two-time USAD National Champion (10m Individual and Synchronized).

Don’t wait until the last minute to cast your vote for the March 3 primary, especially since nearly 200 Vote Centers will open on Saturday, February 29, providing voters with convenient access to cast their ballots.

With several convenient locations in Mission Viejo, each Vote Center serves as a fully functioning voting location that mirrors traditional Election Day. By voting in advance, you will experience less or no wait times and won’t have to wait until Election Day to cast your ballot.

The 11-Day OC Vote Center officially opens in Mission Viejo Saturday, February 22, giving local voters a convenient place to cast their ballots for the March 3 Primary Election.

Congratulations to Capistrano Valley High School teacher Candice Harrington for winning a $25,000 Milken Educator Award.

The Milken Family Foundation gives the awards to educators who meet their goals of furthering excellence in education. Candace is one of 40 teachers across the nation to be honored with this year’s Milken Educator Award. It’s an award this teacher epitomizes.

Parents and community members are urged to attend an important presentation designed to “Stop Human Trafficking” from 10 am to noon on Saturday, February 22 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women and children are trafficked worldwide. You will learn about preventing human trafficking in the region and what you can do to help victims. 

Enjoy live music, light appetizers and wine for a good cause from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 15 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center.

During this entertaining afternoon, you can sample tastes from more than a dozen different wines from the San Clemente Wine Company. Proceeds will benefit the City’s adopted Marines and Sailors of Headquarters Battalion, First Marine Division, Camp Pendleton.

Former Mission Viejo Company executive and longtime resident Bob Bunyan will provide fun history about the early years of this master-planned community at 3 pm on Sunday, February 23 in the Mission Viejo Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center. 

During this free presentation, he will discuss aspects that no longer exist in Mission Viejo but played an integral part in making our City special.
