Military & Veterans

Get ready to be inspired and have fun with the entire family during the 4th annual Veterans Resource Fair and Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team matches on Saturday, November 10.

Hosted by Assemblyman Bill Brough and Senator Pat Bates in partnership with the City of Mission Viejo, the event is from noon to 4 p.m. at the Saddleback College Baseball Stadium, 28000 Marguerite Parkway.

The fair will offer health benefits, Veterans Affairs home loans, education benefits, veteran employment services and legal services to military veterans and their families.

Veterans of the Year Nominations

The Veterans of the Year program began in 2011 to celebrate a male and female resident veteran from all wars and conflicts within the Mission Viejo community. Since then, veteran honorees have been recognized during our annual Veterans Day ceremony. Applications to nominate a veteran are available online and can be dropped off at the Norman P.

Veterans and Military Family Resource Center

The Resource Center features current information from Veterans Administration, California Department of Veterans Services, County of Orange, City's Marine Adoption Committee and non-profit agencies serving veterans, active duty military and their families.

U.S. Military veterans listen up! Mission Viejo High School is currently seeking veterans and active duty personnel to honor at the sixth annual Mission for the Armed Forces (MAF) football game on September 28.

Selected nominees and their families will receive a pre-game dinner, reserved seating, and will be honored by the varsity team during the game. Each veteran will be paired up with a varsity football player who will wear the name of the veteran on the back of his jersey instead of his own.

If you served our country, you won't want to miss the new Retirement Financial Literacy course designed to provide local veterans with life and retirement planning concepts.

Open to all veterans and their partners, the free program is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

If you want to provide a sweet treat to the brave hearts who serve our country, consider donating pre-packaged cookies for a special event benefitting Mission Viejo’s adopted Marines.

The City’s Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee is seeking pre-packaged cookie donations to distribute during the annual Lake Day event for members of the City’s adopted Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

If you served our country any time from 1975 to the present day, we want YOU for the Wars of Freedom Veterans event in March.

This nostalgic day filled with music, gifts and patriotic moments begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

The event includes a “Welcome Home Heroes” reception at 11 a.m. followed by a catered lunch, program and performance by the Marine Corps Band at 2 p.m.

With the stork expected to make a few deliveries to Camp Pendleton, the Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee is asking for help in supporting our troops.

The committee is busy assembling baby baskets for the new bundles of joy expecting to arrive soon to some of our adopted Marine families.
