The Mission Viejo community is mourning the loss of longtime trainer Jadon Pollard who passed away on Saturday. He was 49.


The beloved married father of two young children spent the last decade as a personal trainer at the City's Montanoso Recreation Center. He spent more than 30 years in the field helping people get fit and live healthier lives.

With spring break just around the corner, the City of Mission Viejo is encouraging parents to register their kids now for the action-packed Spring Break Adventure Camp at the Montanoso Recreation Center.

The camp takes place in two sessions - April 3-6 and April 10-13 -  at 25800 Montanoso Drive to coincide with spring break schedules of both the Capistrano Unified School District and Saddleback Valley Unified School District.

The spring 2017 Singles Flex League for 3.0 to 4.5 players begins April 2 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, 27474 Casta Del Sol. 

Men and women 18 years and older are invited to take part in this popular program that pits competitive singles against each other in exciting 10 weeks of play. 

Each player will play nine matches during the regular season, with the top eight players in each division advancing to playoffs on week 10. The $28 league fee includes balls, prizes and a barbecue during finals.

If your youngster is interested in trying tennis, consider signing up for the new Junior Development Beginner Class that takes swing on March 29.

Led by head tennis professional Ryan Hill, the one-hour sessions for ages 6-8 take place each Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, 27474 Casta Del Sol.

The Mission Viejo Bocce Club gained forever bragging rights after clinching the club's first competition.

About 20 members traveled to north Orange County March 15 to compete against the City of Tustin's Bocce Club. 

"It was an exciting and interesting match with each team determined to win," said Community Services Supervisor Barb Cassidy.  "The host team provided a spread of refreshments to boost energy, and everyone had a blast!" 

Saddleback Valley Unified School District is hosting its annual Softball Tournament March 13-16 at William S Craycraft Park.

Each year, the week after daylight-saving time varsity and junior varsity high school softball teams battle for the champion spot in Southern Orange County. The tournament features some of the best softball players in high school softball and is fun for the entire family to watch.

The games take place at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the City's park located at 23650 Via Linda.

Aspiring JV or varsity high school tennis players are invited to take part in a special 10-week program that runs through May.

The girls' tennis program takes place on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Felipe Tennis Center, 27161 Nogal. The program helps teens improve their tennis skills, footwork, court awareness, ball striking and placement. 

Filmmakers are sought to submit their family-friendly short films by May 12 for the 2nd annual Mission Viejo Film Festival.
 
The Mission Viejo Film Festival is a showcase for impassioned filmmakers throughout Orange County that supports a great cause.  Proceeds benefit City of Hope. This year’s categories include Young Filmmakers: Exploring Mission Viejo; Music Videos; High School; and College-Indie. Submit your film to http://missionviejofilmfestival.com by May 12.
